Play abandoned for the third day running. At least one match managed almost 3 games today. It bring back memories of when I was stranded in Pula, Sardinia for a week at this time of year because of the volcanic ash cloud a few years ago.

That match score of 1-1 was where it was interrupted on Wednesday, no play at all yesterday or today.

That match was 3rd on court on Wednesday with neither of the previous two matches having started. There was play today. The court for this match had a start time 40 minutes before the other courts in the early afternoon revised schedule, which is why this is the only match that started today.

Don't know how much play the will get today or how they will end this tournament, but Naiktha is underway in her first match as a Brit and has just broken to 40. *1-0. But under pressure in her first service game...

I see the interrupted match was too much waiting for Pantuckova, so Pantuckova goes through by retirement
(I presume they are sisters)

It looks like Fran attempted to start, but they must have thought the court was not yet playable as they (and another) court never got past the warm up.

I reckon if they manage to complete the QF by the end of tomorrow they may try to play the SF and F on Monday, but if not, they'll call it a day and just try to finish the uncompleted round on Monday. They can't move too many matches into Monday as that will disrupt next week's tournament.

The forecast looks a lot better for next week. Shame Fran is staying for that.

Naiktha 6-1 6-3. Bookies had that really close, so that's a great start to her new campaign. Well done.

It'll be Lea Boskovic next for Naiktha, who beat WC Chloe C 6-0 6-2 in 50 mins. Naiktha only dropped 4 games but her match was roughly twice the duration so the Croat should be fresher.

Difficult to gauge the level of these IRs, but Naiktha could really do with a QF to get net points, especially as she is the 4th seed.

Then again, it's 6.30 in Italy so I can't really see Bains getting on again today. Hopefully 2 matches tomorrow.

Kimberley Zimmerman posted this photo of the courts on Wednesday

She posted again this morning to say the courts were completely saturated.

And now that Pantuckova has just given Fourlis a walkover into the QF. Fourlis beat her WC opponent 6-2 6-1 and that's who Bains will potentially meet in the QF, so Fourlis has had a lucky break there.

Pantuckova's WO was showing before play started today.

Fran now underway. I think they've decided to use just 1 court as this match has started just after Zimmermann's match finished, and the matches were scheduled to be on different courts.

1-3*
