Good to see Adam Jones get that LL place ( ah though hadn't realised it was in place of Lloyd )

Taking the place of an original MD competitor he doesn't get the day off seemingly generally afforded to the more normal route qualifiers.

As said elsewhere it does seem questionable to put the qualifiers through that long day cattlemarket of both qualifying matches one day and then give them the day off the next day. On the face of it the FQRs could have been scheduled for today. Or is it to do with expenses and letting the FQR losers depart a day earlier ( if not in doubles )? I just don't know the thinking which is why I said "questionable" rather than other words I initially had in mind.

I guess they just play 2 sets plus a possible MTB a match in qualifying ( possibly a separate bone of contention in itself ) but still it does have a bit of a look of just get that annoying stuff out of the way asap.

Remind me, is the LL slot done on a draw of the top four losers? Or automatically goes to the top ranked player still around.?

Escoffier lost to Tim Van R in two sets last week. And has just beaten him in two sets this week.

Aidan has lost the first set to Neil on a TB

Ryan P has won the first against Bothwell

I believe it is drawn amongst those with ATP/ITF ranking - so could go to any of the eight that are still left standing  - I haven't looked at their rankings though, so not all might be in the draw.

Neil P beats Aidan 7-6 6-3

Pleased for Neil, it was a decent enough match, but it does rather expose Aidan, once again, as having lack of penetration at this level.

Liam has played a cracking first set, taking it 6-2, against the Sizzling dutchman.

However, after what happened last week against Boris Van der Z, you can never rest too easy.....

Allez, Liam!

Only watched a little of Liam's match towards the end and Sijsling looked like he was having a warm up hit while taking a walk in the park. And I don't say that to be disrespectful to Liam who is the first player in a while to take a set off him.

Good to see Liam is back off to some challengers next (as reported in his personal thread by Madadman) where he will probably get some much easier draws than this, unless Sijsling follows suit of course.

Yes, didn't see all of the second and third sets but I don't think Liam played significantly worse, it's just that Igor woke up, started hitting his spots with his serves, playing a little higher up, and generally taking charge a little more.

Shame he couldn't have stayed in second gear just one more set, though..
