Week 15 - ITF (W25) - Sunderland, GB - Hard Indoor

Congratulations to 17 year old Esther Adeshina (JCH=194 two years ago). To take out the 2nd seed ranked 415 in her first match at the senior level was some achievement. She apparently beat the boys at the Millfield Progress Tour event last year.

She played pretty well in the tie break and I am just so pleased she got the win.

Poor Lissy, but really pleased for Laura. If she draws Naomi in the first round then we'll be guaranteed a QF-ist. So that's 12 of 14 winning the MTB today after dropping the 2nd set.

Lissy really should have been a MDWC ahead of Ella or Amelia, but maybe the Emma late withdrawal theory is correct - she'll be gutted to have nothing to show for her singles these past 2 weeks, especially as her (single's) season hasn't really got going yet.

Hmmm, Laura has taken out Lissey 6-1 in their first set in just 27 mins. More one sided than I expected.

A toilet break though seems to have made the difference. Lissey now 4-0 up 2nd set.

Ironically Paar vs Muntean in the first FQR was similarly topsy-turvy with Paar winning 6-0 1-6 10-5

And this is exactly what Laura has done with Lissey winning 6-1 0-6 10-5

It gives Laura a 2nd counter now, once her two come off by mid-May (and 4 pts).

Yes, great win. Unfortunately struggling in her next match mind, *1-5, although her opponent did get a walkover earlier so would be a lot fresher. Shame how she'll get nothing concrete to show for it (should she lose her FQR) apart from confidence, praise on here and her stock with the powers.

Let's hope she can get a few more points before then! I just hope she doesn't draw Harriet or Victoria in round one. Happy with any any of the other spots.

Pleased that Laura got the win, especially with these 2 counters due off soon.

But in the bigger picture any thoughts from anyone viewing her what her main general problems are, why is her progress so slow just now and what was that 2nd set there about?

Indeed. That Cadar spot would be ideal (she was double bagelled by Victoria last week). Q vs Q would be good and dare I say it, Naomi...

She is still coming back from her layoff, so progress is bound to be stop/start

As for the score, that is a peak WTA score right there. Lauren Davis (USA) in last week's tournament in Charleston won a match 6-4, 0-6, 6-2. Mertens (BEL) won a match in the same tournament 6-0, 0-6, 7-5. It happens.

Lissey will be extremely disappointed, even if her doubles win last week provides some solace. However not to be given even one MDWC across the two weeks, and then to draw a quadrant today with Laura in it was tough. She doesn't have too many points coming off very soon, but as said, but on the other hand she doesn't have a single counter yet this year (as she hasn't been playing before these last two weeks), so once away from here hope she can regroup and then start to make some headway, perhaps in the Far East where she was last May/ early June.

It happened 30 mins before as I pointed out above with an almost identical score between Paar and Muntean! wink

Order of play out for tomorrow.

Ella, Maia and Tara playing tomorrow with the other 5 + qualifiers playing on the Wednesday. Looks like they've purposefully given Jodie an extra day off.

Esther down a break in her second set 1-6 *2-5 (9 DFs to go with her 13 in Q1).
K Pitak just gone down a break as well, but still battling hard.

Jodie is playing doubles though tomorrow, again with Lissey.
