Second round match ups as follows. Not good news for Laura, but we're guaranteed at least one in the QFs, and Jodie and even Tara should be favourites. Interested to see how Victoria fares against Anderson.
R16: DART, Harriet (GBR) [1] 135 vs ROBSON, Laura (GBR) [Q] 823
R16: MOORE, Tara (GBR) [WC] 479 vs MORDERGER, Yana (GER) [Q] 754 (CH:518 June 17)
R16: ALLEN, Victoria (GBR) [WC] UNR vs ANDERSON, Robin (USA) [2] 200 (CH:183 July 16)
R16: BURRAGE, Jodie Anna (GBR) 334 vs NOEL, Mallauie (FRA) [Q] 553 (CH:547 Dec 18)
You'd think with it being the holidays they could have found some ballkids
A few hundred pounds for sweat shirts and a packed lunch organised with local schools. If only the LTA had some money and a desire to get kids involved in tennis.
Had a really good time at Sunderland. Some good matches, decent comebacks (although obviously nothing like yesterday), and had a really good chat with one of an LTA member quite high up on the women's side - she confirmed there will definitely be 4 25k women events the other side of the grass season, all in the London area.
Obviously streamed, but Molinaro started like a train and is very feisty and vocal when winning big points. Harriet complaining that it was cold and that she could barely hold her racket - and it was very cold, even on the balcony - I'll be wearing a thicker jacket if I do go back. She also wasn't happy with some of the calls in the first set, lot's of trademark 'really' being asked with a confused look - I thought she had a case with a few, but most were borderline - Molinaro certainly couldn't complain about home town judging though. Not sure what happened from the tie break onwards, probably Harriet raising her level and Eleonaro dropping hers, but the 2nd set was a lot more comfortable although still a decent enjoyable match and some decent winners from the youngster.
Vic Allen (and she is mostly known as 'Vic') was impressive again. She had to save a couple of BPs in the first set, but was clearly the better player and was serving very well. Generally looked in control throughout and as someone mentioned previously, it will indeed be interesting to see how she gets on against Anderson tomorrow.
Rajecki put up a bit of a fight, but Jodie was generally comfortable - I guess it would be quite similar to their match last week. It's obviously just her style and the way she is, but Jodie is so volatile and gets angry at the slightest of things. She held serve pretty convincingly for 4-3, but was fuming at the sit down and wasn't really happy with her serving either - loudly complaining about getting no first serves in. I didn't see much of Laura until the final set as I was watching Jodie, but she wasn't happy with a call which helped the opponent break her in the decider and then held to go 1-3 up - I certainly didn't see Laura coming back from there, but to win 5 games on the spin was some going.
Caught a bit of the doubles at the end as 3 matches had British interest, but I was kind of watching it more thinking about who will benefit most from going out, rather than enjoying the matches - it's just not really for me, especially at this level - latter stages of Wimbledon, maybe, but was more of a time filler from my perspective (as I came via 3 forms of public transport). I was pleased that Freya won though as she seems to have a good partnership with Valeria and she could do with any kind of positive result at the moment.
Scheduling worked out really well too which was a massive bonus - Anton's match finished relatively early, certainly quicker than Houghton-Story anyway, and that ensured that the matches I was mainly wanting to see were much better spread out. Oh and I got a telling off for looking at in play scores on my Bet365 app.
Not sure what's going to be streamed tomorrow. It's usually Courts 2 and 3, but for some reason it doesn't look like there's any matches on Court 3 tomorrow:
Thanks Ace. Always good to get that first hand report and more 'feel' for things.
Jodie"s volatility is interesting in its way, wonder if she will calm a fair amount over time. Certainly seems to have been a generally prevailing at least undercurrent with her as opposed to Gabi who 'found' volatility in the latter part of last year.
Yes, good to hear Ace, thanks! Interesting about Jodie, as several people have remarked the same recently. Sounds a bit like a young Andy, but she will need to get better control of herself if she really wants to continue to advance higher. Still her game has certainly come on this year. Vic, if that's what she's called, Allen, is however for me the stand out person of these last two weeks, as she has really burst onto the scene. Yes, I know Emma did very well last week, but she was already on the scene as it were.

Yeah, it was a little bit comical and in a way as if she was a parody of herself. The person I was speaking to said you'll not be able to change her but that she was one of the nicest girls off the court. Maybe still feeling the effects a bit from last week, but good that she got a reasonably routine straight sets win in under an hour - I dread to think what she would be like if it was a 3 set epic, ha . A bit unpolished, but there were some signs from Rajecki - that's the first time I've seen her and like Vic, she also has an imposing build and she's still just 16.
Edit - just over an hour. 1 hr 2 mins.

Jodie will now be provisionally up to GB #8 ( now including Naiktha ) on 22/04, ahead of Naomi and Katy D, and the points to come off these two in the near and relative form differences looks likely to just see Jodie move further ahead over the coming weeks.
Jodie needs a SF here to move ahead of Gabi to #7.
Tara upset the odds the other day and I can't imagine what price she would have been at 0-6 0-5, some bookies might not have actually been taking bets on Ponchet at that stage, but in terms of tomorrow, it is as follows:
Harriet 4/11, Laura 2/1
Tara 2/7, opponent 5/2 - Can't take anything for granted with Tara these days, but I'd imagine she'd never think she'd be that short to reach a 25k QF the way the last 8 months or so have gone. Really hope she can do it. Morderger didn't look that great today
Vic 11/2, opponent 1/10 - Robin may well win reasonably comfortably in 2, but for me, 11/2 looks far too big here.
Jodie 1/8, Noel (who loves playing Brits) 9/2
I'd love to see Vic win again, but I'd be pretty happy if we get 3 through. Obviously guaranteed one in the first match and that is a big match for both - will try and catch that on stream.
I heard Talksport wondering about the Tara odds ( at least she made news quite widely ) but deciding that you wouldn't have in match betting on matches at that level. Hmm.
