Really strong start from Victoria. *3-0 and opponent never been past 30. Seen her a few times in jr slam matches and she looks very tall and well made for someone who's just turned 18.
It's been pretty much domination so far. *5-0 and only dropped 7 points thus far. Hope she can keep it up.

Victoria currently making an absolute mockery of those close 4/5 odds. 6-0 4-0*. The Romanian has at least got to deuce this set and had a game point, but it's been very much one way traffic. Really good performance.
Yes, indeed you got me to have a look at her Ace though I'm supposed to be working. Very impressive for sure. She has an effortless power that speaks to considerable potential and her defensive game is pretty solid too. And in this match, given half a chance she immediately puts the ball away for a winner. Imposing serve... and she's now just double bagelled Cadar.
Huge result for Victoria. Not just a WTA ranking, but she's now on 12 points, which is exactly the same as Emily App, so should give her a ranking in the low 700s when the points are put on.

One to keep an eye on for sure. I'm planning to get to Sunderland for a couple of days next week so would be really good to see her play there. Not sure how WCs work at her age and she's already had something earlier in the year and would need to keep the grass events in mind as well, but if she did get in somehow, that would be great.
And she will now on tiebreaker be live ranked ahead of Emily App on the impeccable logic of the WTA - ie that just 2 counters ( while less than 10 points ) is nae good for a ranking but as soon as you have 3 counters then least counters for your points is one of the tiebreakers. GB #21.
By the way I think that tiebreaker is fine, it's the 3 counters or 10 points for a WTA ranking that I have issues with.
Alice doing well as well. *4-3, but without watching it, it does look like the Latvian is starting to get more into it after being broken in her first game. Most of her recent holds have been to love/15, whereas Alice is more like 40. Good stuff to get it to that, but facing 2 BPs here - *15-40.
And now back on serve, 4-4*

Yeah, looking at the Romanian's recent results after the match including a straight sets defeat to A Pitak a few months ago, maybe did make me look at it slightly differently, but that's not to take anything away from Victoria who beat who was in front of her and in some style as well.
Plus this IR Steur is currently a set up and has a BP against Badosa Gibert in the 2nd set who has qualified for slams and not far off the top 100, plus a Belgian IR made a 25k final last week and a Korean or Taiwan women won a Japan 25k about 2 weeks ago, so you never know. Steur couldn't convert said BP.
I suppose technically, Hua-Chen Lee (Taiwan) and Lara Salden both do have a WTA ranking and have mostly competed in 25ks this year so not quite the same as Cadar, but still though, from a betting POV at least, it was a great win. The bookies won't want to be making the likes of Cadar 10/11 to win those type of matches for much longer or they'll be out of business.
Alice lost her tie breaker. She was 0-4 down early on, got it back to *4-5, but then lost the next 2 points on serve.
Sasha struggling. 1-6 *0-2.
Yes I see Sasha is playing the WR 246, even if she is not seeded. In that sense, Victoria was certainly comparatively fortunate with her draw, although she certainly took her opportunity well. For Sasha it's a learning opportunity, first time in a W25 MD and certainly first time against such a high ranked player.
It's a weird one this, I'm looking at the PBG live scores and see she is again trying to fend off break points (which she has again), but not sure who I want to win that one. I do quite like Paula so would normally want her to win, but at the same time, I'm thinking Naomi is potentially Noel and Steur off a QF place and it might just be a bad day at the office for PBG (although her recent form isn't too great), but then again, knowing Naomi's recent form, it's probably more just like setting up Noel for a straightforward run to the QF herself. Wish Naomi played her match first to have more perspective.
Steur 6-4 *4-3 vs the 2nd seed.

The fact the Serb hadn't played on tour since 5th November gave me a slight bit of hope, 5 months is a long lay off, but yes, levels unfortunately.
Odds are up for tomorrow (although judging by how Cadar was priced...):
Jodie 1/4, opp 11/4 Naomi 4/9, opp 13/8 Emma 8/13, opp 6/5 Maia 11/8, opp 8/15 Ella 2/1, opp 4/11 Tara 3/1, opp 2/9
It would be great if Maia could continue her strong GB indoor form, but I'd be happy enough if it did go with the odds and we got 3 joining Victoria in the last 16. Mind, some of those look really finely poised which is expected when you have a lot of SE/s WCs and Qs going against other Qs.
P.S. Badosa has just won 3 games in a row to take her match into a decider.
