Poor Laura, I wonder if that heel is bothering her that paulisi mentioned earlier? She has gone from 5-2 to 6-7(2) 0-4 in no time, with most the games seemingly comfortable. I'm not particularly neutral in that match - I'll wish Tara well in the main draw, but was certainly wanting Laura to come through. I suppose at least Laura did ensure a GB main draw entry with her prior win, but points wise, she'll get no credit for it.
Not to be for Holly who goes down 5-7 4-6. She was 2-0 up in that second set, but she can be proud of her efforts today and had a really good win earlier.
With Jodie and Tara going through, I think that's just about par, maybe a little bit worse than could have been.
Jodie was top seed and a huge favourite to beat Amelia in Q1 and was also a 1/12 fave to beat unseeded Robbe, so we'd have all been disappointed if she didn't come through, but job done, saves a MDWC and gives someone else the opportunity in the main draw.
Tara came through her section so it's good that we did get someone in the main draw, but I don't think I'll be alone on here in wanting it to have been Laura, plus the Tara-Laura FQR match was expected, but at least the German didn't beat Laura and then make it further.
Most would have expected Paar to come through her section, but with Sam having the clear rest advantage, much easier work in her Q1 match, winning 4 games in a row to force the MTB and having a lead there, it is a little bit disappointing, but it would have been an unexpected bonus at the start of the day if someone said Sam would qualify.
I was really disappointed with Freya's result, especially the scoreline. The Swedish opponent lost 3 and 0 to Eden not long ago and has been very modest at Shaarm 15k, so thought that game was there for the taking and seeing the opponent performing well against 2nd seed Bektas in the FQR (6-3 4-4), that may well be a missed opportunity for Freya, but it sounds like she's not happy with her game at the moment.
Alicia was top seed in her section and a 1/6 fave to beat Holly, so may well have had a better chance against Noel in the FQR, who knows. Big win for Holly and that will do her very good long term, but like Robson (and Sam) gets nothing concrete to show for it.
Didn't have any hopes for K Pitak in her section.
Edit - Freya's conqueror Malmqvist won the MTB to qualify, but there's been nothing in her recent results to suggest anything to be feared - I guess it could be a good opponent for the likes of Emma or Naomi in the main draw, who both faces qualifiers in R1.

Just a few quick snippets
Sam's match was held up as Sam complained about the poor officiating and had the supervisor intervene (not like Sam). Sam's opponent also confirmed afterwards that the officiating was awful.
There were several other poorly officiated matches.
Laura totally ran out of gas and Tara just took the pace off and ran her round the court.
Very controlled performance from Jodie.
Holly Staff played a terrific match and was unlucky not to come through.
It's ridiculous that players are expected to play back to back matches in qualifying, with up to and in some cases over 4hrs tennis and gain zero or 1pt.
Lilly put up a decent performance earlier in the day.
I see there are 8 R1 matches tomorrow and 8 on Wednesday. Victoria, Alice and Sasha all play tomorrow and presumably the other 6 will play Wednesday (Emma, Maia, Naomi, Tara, Jodie, Ella). Good that Emma gets an extra day off and assuming Maia was feeling effects from last weeks retirement, the extra day for her should do her good too - obviously that would mean playing 4 or 5 matches consecutively if any of those were going to reach the latter stages (we can hope eh ;)), but short term, it should give some more of a fighting chance to win a match or two.
Real shame to hear that the officiating was that bad. Was it the linespeople? Or the umpire? My experience is that the linespeople are often pretty poor - I wonder how many of them actually play tennis, or officiate in a decent number of matches per year (not a problem in most countries).
We had challenger players not getting any points for their efforts in qualis for ages so the current system for ITF 25 women is no different. However, it does stand out against the others now - I'm sure they'll change it.

Thanks for the updates. Many spectators there? Sounds promising regarding Holly who they do seem to rate highly.
It was quite busy, mainly coaches and parents. There were a few spectators.
Each court had an umpire and one line judge.
I saw three poor umpires during the day. Sam's match, end of Laura's first match and Tierney's second match. Two of them I've seen before and don't rate.
So some women's matches have started, although none of the 3 GB players due on today.
Victoria follows Evan Hoyt's match on court 7 (who looks well on his way) and is streamed and Alice match follows that one, also streamed. Sasha looks to be the only match on Court 5 today, so she should start just after 1pm, not streamed. Bookies see Victoria as 50/50 and the other 2 pretty big outsiders. Looking at the odds, Victoria's match was the only reasonably close match on paper of the 8 women's matches today, with a lot of heavy favourites - it'll be interesting to see if anyone pulls off an upset or comes close to it.
Victoria should be on soon.
