Paula BG did come through in 3 in the end, not sure on the score. First set would have been either 5-7 or 6-7, but she won the decider 6-4, so is obviously prepared to grind it out here - that's 2 tight straight 3 set victories in a row now over an IR and a Q.
So she's on 9 points now, would get to 18 if she beat Emma, but as the second seed, she'd surely be looking to get to at least the final and 30 points to make it a more worthwhile trip, especially as she's ranked around 125-130. She does have a fair few clay points to defend in the coming weeks, including 78 for a WTA international event where she came through qualifying to make the QF. She would get 12 points for a Lugano 1Q win, 18 if she came through both Q rounds and then could obviously get significantly more if she had success in the main draw.
Who knows, she may well have already withdrawn from Lugano, may have a MDWC secured (although that would be unlikely) or may have an outside chance of sneaking in directly, but if you were in her position what would you do?
She won 5-7 6-2 6-4

It's a short hop to Switzerland. The qualifying rounds are unlikely to start before Sunday, so it's only really a problem for her if she reaches the final. And if she does, with a minimum of 30 points, she might not mind if she doesn't get to Lugano.

Ah, that's kind of key, I just assumed it would be Saturday for some reason, but it's only 2 rounds and they did start on the Sunday last year, so that is a big difference. I mean if she was going to play there, she'd probably like to get there at a decent time for practice and preparation, but yes, she could quite feasibly play Emma and potentially Jodie and still make it. Still though, looks like she didn't have it all her own way against Steur and Noel, who I'd like to think Emma was better than, so it could be an interesting match.
Yes, though I think Ponchet is rather overranked and overrated.
With your knowledge of the French scene, you'll know more about her than me, but just looking at a quick snapshot of her results, she has had a fair few top 200 wins these past 6 or 7 months (7 of those above her ranking at the time), won Glasgow 25k, competed reasonably well in 60ks and also came through slam qualifying for the first time. That's pretty solid.
Maja is pretty highly rated on TF and by a few on Twitter, but I've never actually seen her play yet.
She is solid, but lacks weight in her shot - she is tiny and looks about 12. She got to the Wirral 15k final and lost to Maia, but she was injured in that match.
I've seen Isabella and Paula when I was there earlier in the week. Isabella was very good, Paula was very erratic and had a really had patch in her first round match against Steur and could easily have lost it.
Emma has the better chance of progressing, but I wouldn't get against both getting through and guaranteeing a finalist

So we can stream both, but like Emma and Victoria today, they'll both likely be on at a similar time. Nice bonus that Diatchecko-Chwalinska is on a streamed court - I'll try and catch a bit of that one as well.

With Lloyd having won by walkover/retirement, Emma should be up soon
Wow, naturally sad for the opponent and would hope nothing serious, even if I'd not heard of him before this week, but that's a double bit of good news - safe / easy passage through for Lloyd, but also means that Emma and Jodie shouldn't clash now and I could pretty much see Emma-Jodie-Maja in succession if I wanted to - great way to spend my week off
Tighter turnaround for PBG as well as it was around 6 when she finished yesterday. Shouldn't really make much difference, but you'd rather have finished 4 hours sooner like Emma.
