RE: Week 14 - ITF (W25) Obidos, Portugal Carpet

Oh cry what a shame for Katy - soooo close!

Ah pity for Katy. Would have been great if she had snatched it. Being generally well down in the stats she got to that one service game away.

Still we had the only two non seeds in the QF, both beating each of the other two non seeds. And Beth, a qualifier, is in the SF.

And we currently have a 3/4 Brit doubles SF going on.

Could have been worse

3-3 in 'our' doubles SF. The other doubles SF has just started.

Clearly the singles SFs and final will be scheduled for tomorrow. And presumably the doubles final.

Yeah, real shame for Katy, but her best week in a while with a couple of good wins and pushed a solid player so close today, so better signs and should be a seed next week.

I assume Eden will have to win her SF to get the SE, even though she will be playing on the Sunday?

Stefkova qualified for Wimbledon last year so clearly comfortable with low bouncing surfaces. Encouraging week for Katy and a great one so far for Eden

Singles round up. Eden has the Brit based Bolkvadze next, who is also having a good week, and who is only marginally off her CH achieved last month.

Mariam B is one of those players you watch as a youngster, when she was usually in a bad mood, and often not playing that well, and you then have to get your head round the fact that she's now grown up to be a really pretty decent player.... However, hoping for a throwback match tomorrow - Go, Eden !

And doubles round up. Pleased for EWS. Beth might be disappointed to not reach the final, but don't think Eden will be too much. For the final, Sofia and EWS will probably face the top seeds who are a set and break up against the 4th seeds. Any change in that will see a quiet edit wink

QF: Sofia SHAPATAVA/ Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GEO/GBR) [3] 555 (216+339) beat Dalma GALFI/ Amandine HESSE (HUN/FRA) 683 (278+405) 6-4 7-6(4)
QF: Sarah Beth GREY/ Eden SILVA (GBR/GBR) [2] 462 (168+294) beat Lena RUEFFER/ Daniela VISMANE (GER/LAT) UNR (338+UNR) 6-4 6-3

SF: Sofia SHAPATAVA/ Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GEO/GBR) [3] 555 (216+339) beat Sarah Beth GREY/ Eden SILVA (GBR/GBR) [2] 462 (168+294) 6-3 6-3

F: Sofia SHAPATAVA/ Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GEO/GBR) [3] 555 (216+339) vs Bucsa, Cristina BUCSA/ Georgina GARCIA-PEREZ (ESP/ESP) [1] 309 (191+118)

First of our Sunday representatives was due on court at 11 to begin her SF match, but it seems more rain and drying out time required in Obidos and the SF start times have now been pushed back to 13.00

Hmm, well at least well beaten.

Still very good week. Indeed, generally in Obidos. Hopefully they can stay reasonably dry and have a good follow-up week.

Em and Sofia are 4-2* in their final, having just held serve for the first time (yes first five games were all breaks)
