Week 14 - ITF (W25) Obidos, Portugal Carpet

So Eden beat a seed, in two sets.

And Beth beat an even higher seed, in two even easier sets.

Sorry for EWS.

But that's a good morning's work down in Portugal

Yes, only 2/3, when all our players were seeded to win. If Emily can't win matches like this and pick up any WTA points, fear her ranking is going to dwindle away fast - she has 26 of her 41 pts falling off next month and thus far only 2 counters beyond 30 Dec.

Q2: Sarah Beth GREY (GBR) [q1] 446 beat Marianna ZAKARLYUK (UKR) [8] 641 6-3 6-2
Q2: Eden SILVA (GBR) [q2] 466 beat Francisca JORGE (POR) [10] 651 7-5 6-4
Q2: WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily (GBR) [q6] 496 lost to KA, Andrea (CAM) 857 3-6 1-6

Umm, but they were the top 2 q seeds CD! (even if livescores hid that fact! wink)

Happy with that outcome. Now a couple of wildcards (not the Georgian) in the main draw and it'll be all good.

 Ahhh, good point smilenodisbelief

Yes, why did blinkin' livescores not remind me of that? As you say, they've got the other ones ! Have they got it in for the British players? Taking away their seedings, huh?

So, apologies to the two, but still very pleased about the results smile

They're both finding it hard to hold serve, 5 breaks in a row this set. Hesse only once in 6 attempts throughout the match.

6-1 2-4*

Into a decider, It went to 7 breaks in a row before Hesse held, no holds for Katie there in 4 attempts.

6-1 3-6 *0-0

Yes, I made a mistake looking again. 3 games into the 3rd set and Katy hasn't held a serve since some time in the 1st set...

I've been looking back at the main draw for ages to see where the Qs are placed, but still nothing. You've basically got 3 draws where both Eden and SBG will be clear favourites and 3 draws where it will be much tougher - could make a massive difference when main draw 25k wins have been hard to come by for both - just 1 between them this year and that was for Eden (against an IR).

Think that's the 16th break in 22 games, crazy. Katy with the slight advantage now because she has one extra rare hold more this set, ha.

*4-2.

Still more twists and turns you feel.
