Ha. Yes I noticed the other day that Ryan P was last of the ATP ranked at WR 682. That should be due to him having most MD appearances at 25K or above of these with 1 point ( 17 according to the rankings list ).

As far as I can see none of our current 17 ATP ranked can lose their ranking until 12th August when Alex Ward loses his final points ( with no intention of replacing them ) and Ryan Storrie drops his one point.

However, at the moment only our current top 9 ranked ( and that includes Andy ) have yet picked up any ATP counters this year.

Looks like Lloyd has just won by walkover/retirement without playing.

Sorry for the Swiss guy but glad that one of ours gets the benefit

Just to confirm:

QF:  Lloyd Glasspool WR 430 (ITF 90) "defeated" (2) Marc-Andrea Hüsler (SUI) WR 357 (ITF 270) by retirement/walkover/whatever!  smile

Edit to report that it's now officially a walkover.

Great updates, paulisi

Although this seems slightly contradictory:

"Aidan was terrific, just keeps the ball in play".

But it certainly seemed a good game on livestream, only watched the first set, which was close.

Such a shame for George - there aren't many opportunities and you need the rub of the green - one win here or there can make such a difference.

NB You say Liam's next match will be tough. Were you impressed by the guy? He's only being making QFs in 15ks recently, it's not much on paper.

Aidan's style is built around impressive defence and it was very impressive.

I'm suggesting Liam's match will be tough as the guy dispatched Penno very easily.

He has also beaten Liam comprehensively (1&2) already this year in Germany in January.

And has now gone on to beat his compatriot, Brouwer (7/WR 415), by 4 & 1 in an hour & 15 minutes!

QF:  (IR) Evan Hoyt WR 490 (ITF 19) vs Igor Sijsling (NED) WR 424 (CH = 52 in February 2014)  furious  bleh

Am i missing something with Sijsling?? Why the demon faces??!

These will both be tough - but at the outset, GB would have only expected 1 player in QF round on seedings, and sadly Liam didnt make it. But Lloyd (starting to find form again at last) and Evan should be pleased with their efforts so far - just hope they can get more wins and get atp points...

Not Sijsling specifically.  I just get fed up with seeing 31-year-olds like him & Marsel Ilhan (TUR/currently unranked by the ATP, but with a CH of 77 in March 2015), or 33-year-old Teymuraz Gabashvili (RUS/WR 376 [CH 43 in February 2016]), or 34-year-old Fred Gil (POR/WR 555 [CH 105 in September 2010]) or 34-year-old Lamine Ouahab (MAR, WE 440 [CH 114 in September 2009]) slumming it at Futures level & regularly handing out a drubbing to younger, far less experienced players, some of whom are barely scratching a living.  cry  At least other players on the slide, such as Marcel Granollers (32, WR 111 [CH 19 in July 2012]), GGL (35, WR 113 [CH 23 in Feburary 2011]), Tommy Robredo (36, WR 223 [CH 5 in August 2006]), Stéphane Robert (38, WR 283 [CH 50 in October 2016]) or another 38-year-old, Victor Estrella (WR 346 [CH = 43 in July 2015]), have managed to keep up their rankings sufficiently to enter Challengers.  And you have to hand it to Big Ivo:  40, WR 77 (CH = 14 in August 2008) & still making the main draw of Masters 1000s & Grand Slams!

By the way, the second emoticon is no demon, it's a "bleh", a pulled face because Evan has to face him.  wink

Or...those younger players should be able to beat them? Just a thought. If they are that young and inexperienced, a lot of the time it won't matter who they face, they still would lose so what difference does it make really? Maybe the older players still enjoy tennis but don't want to play challengers.

At the very least, it's a learning curve. (Will admit to being a bit sick of Sijsling's name though!)

If those older players enjoy what they are doing then fine, up to them.

And yes, an older experienced player will often offer a different challenge and useful learning to a young hopeful.

Yes, I don't think the older players owe it to the younger ones to move over and just let them win.

In fact, I think having older players at all parts of the ladder is important - it shows the youngsters how tennis can be a longer-term career, of some sort, not just for the tip-top players. And gives the youngsters the benefit of their take on things.

My problem with Sijsling is I always forget how to write his name. But I watched him once live at Wimbledon qualis, play the most cracking match against Matthieu, where he won in the fifth set 7-5 (it was the FQR so five sets) - marvellous match.

Unfortunately Sijsling is Sizzling today and leads Evan 6-2 *4-1

Huesler has made main draw in Tapai which I imagine is the reason for the walkover

Not sure. I was only half watching but it seemed that there were officials and everyone on court at 10 a.m. to get the match going.
