Emily perhaps fortunate here. Qualifier in the first round and the winners of that plays a Q or WC in the 2nd round - although I don't have any knowledge of the potential qualifiers capabilities. Could be in line to face the top seed in the QF.
Emily plays 19 year old qualifier Anais Kikuchi of Japan in R1. Until recently she went by the surname of Defossez and represented Belgium until the start of the year.
Yes good to see that Emily and Maria Jose Portillo Ramirez got past Maria Fernanda Martinez Hernandez and Fernanda Castillo Huerta safely. Carrying both mother's and father's surnames leads to a lot of extra weight to carry around... Next match up promises to be a little shorter, even with 3 first names as being one option.
Emily plays another qualifier in the second round her won her first round match rather more quickly than Emily did. Still Emily should be able to reach the QF.
Emily breaks in the final game eventually and comes through relatively easily. Next up she plays Babic, who took out the top seed, Andrea Gamiz, easily in the first round and also won easily today. They are similar (WTA) rankings, and will be a good test for Emily. She will not be favourite.
