Boggo is seeded 4th and has a qualifier in rd1

He could face Parmar in rd2 provided that Arvind overcomes jetlag and the difficult challenge of India's Harsh Mankad. Harsh is ranked at lot lower at 324 but I'm not confident of Arvind's chances as he'll have to overcome jetlag, fatigue from the Davis Cup plus he could be feeling gutted at having lost the tie and having lost his 6th consecutive rubber. Also the differences between a fast, indoor court in Glasgow and an outdoor, cement court in USA are quite large and Arvind will have zero time to adjust. One of the British players once remarked "The biggest pain on tour is the little time you get to adjust between tournaments to the different surfaces. You can begin your first round match having had no time at all to practise on the courts and it takes you most of the 1st set to get used to things and by that time you're 3 breaks down !!"

Alex is seeded to face the American 5th seed Jeff Morrison in the quarters. Morrison has a 2-0 head-to-head advantage over Boggo beating him twice in 2005 on hard courts, both times in 3 sets. Boggo has struggled in overcoming the American's powerful and accurate serve and accomplished net game.

Jamie Murray put up a good performance against the top seed but lost in 2 close sets:

Rd1: T Rettenmaier [USA][1] bt J Murray [GB] 6-4, 6-4

However, we have a representative in the final qualifying round. Jamie Delgado's fought through 2 tough 3 setters against Aussie lucky loser Carsten Ball and American wildcard Eric Basica:

Rd1: J Delgado [GB] bt C Ball [Aus][LL] 4-6, 6-4, 6-4

Rd2: J Delgado [GB] bt E Basica [WC] 4-6, 6-2, 7-6[4]

Unfortunately Jamie plays Jamie Murray's conqueror for a place in the main draw

Rettenmaier was very impressive in rd2 of the qualies aswell, beating Jeff Salzenstein 6-4, 6-1.

Jamie's match was extremely close but from the look of things, Rettenmaier just played a better 3rd set tiebreak.

Hopefully Jamie can get some good wins in the doubles, wins have been few and far between for him in the singles recently though it's really tough as most of his opponents are ranked 500 or more places higher.

Dudi Sela is a 20 year old Israeli and last summer he was being touted as one of the most talented young players on the challenger tour and it was only a matter of time before he made the top 100. Well, Sela hasn't made that transition yet but he's still thereabouts at 177. He has a doubles ranking of 344 but has recently reached a challenger final. If they can gell together quickly he'll be a great partner for Jamie this week.

they still havent allocated the q's yet, lets hope alex doesnt get travis. only 2 seeds will make it through, with one match to finish at 33 in the 3rd.

also jamie will be either 1st or 2nd in line for a LL spot as 5th seed depending on the result of the final Q match between the 4th and 6th seed. so lets hope for jamie the 4th seed can pull through.

and another post, mankand is now down to face a q/ll so arv must have pulled out, so even more for jamie riding on that final match.

cant see bozolijac match listed today so cant tell if he has pulled out too, maybe not as he is seeded and if they pushed it back to wednesday should be ok, and would be quite heavily fined if he oulled out i think.

Alex won 6-3, 6-3.....boy poor Jaime has no luck in his draws does he?

I thought he would have taken it to three sets, but the match was played in Cali...lots of eye candy in the stands...I am sure Jaime was distracted by all those six foot blondes.... But, nice for Boggo to get a straight sets win under his belt, I hope he has a great week.

Great win for Alex

but commiserations to Jamie, that was really rotten luck with the draw. The head-to-head between these two is now 3-2 to Alex: Alex won indoors in the National Championship 2002 final and also in the semis of the 2004 Nottingham grass court Challenger. Jamie won on hard courts in the Nottingham Challenger rd1 last year and also on grass at Queens last year in a playoff match for the final wildcard.

LOl, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Jamie had spotted some blondes in the crowd, Doug !!

To any new visitors to the site: Legend has it that Jamie was once distracted during a doubles match after spotting some eye-candy in the crowd. He subsequently lost concentration and lost the match !! He has a growing reputation for being one for the ladies !

I am pleased to see Al get a straight sets victory. Hopefully he can maintain the level of form he showed at the beginning of the year before he hurt himself. Does anybody here speak to Alex? Can we have some more information on the injury? Is it definitely cleared up? If Alex can enter the grass court season with his confidence high and injury free, he could win a sack load of ranking points and cash as well. Then perhaps he might like to have a second crack at Israel in the DC.

I agree hopefully Alex can start to hit form on the outdoor hard courts, he's got a good chance of making the quarters as he plays Harsh Mankad in rd2 and Mankad's ranked quite a bit lower at 292. Mankad struggled to win in 3 sets against a qualifier in rd1.
The good news is that Mankad has a massive Indian fan base and there's a good chance that someone from tennis India might be at the tournament to provide live score updates. The bad news is that [a] Mankad is a serial Brit-basher and has beaten the likes of Jamie Baker, Dave Sherwood, Richard Bloomfield etc and nearly beat Andy Murray on outdoor hard. Mankad is on-form having just reached the final of a 10K futures event in the States.

Siobahn is in regular contact with Alex, unfortunately she hasn't been on this site for a little while as she's busy with her degree course. I'll send her an email and see if she has any info.

good win by alex, i think he should be able to get past mankad. morrssion would be an interesting match, i think al will probably feel he can beat him. It would be great if al can get a good run here, even if it effects his performance in wales, he knows he can compete on indoor surfaces so would be great to build some confidence on hard courts too.

suprisingly one sided vs jamie which is good for alex bad for jamie. i wonder if it was just a bad day at trhe office for jamie or if alex is back on the boil. i hope for alexs sake it was the later, his results earlier justifed his not going to oz, would be great if he can do the same re the dc.

uros vico knoked out flashman, kevin Kim is also out too, unfortunlaty they are both in the quarter down from alex, kims was a funny result, bageling the 1st set then losing the next 2 on TB's. he must be furious.
