Weeks 12 & 13 - ATP Masters 1000 - Miami Open, FL, USA (hard) - doubles

Slight scare as they go from *5-6 40-0 to deuce deciding point / SP to JI & SQ. But they take that point.

7-5 6-6 TB

Let's hope the MTB goes rather better than the second set TB

7-5 6-7(2)

L16: John Isner & Sam Querrey (USA/USA) CR 242 (187+55) beat Rajeev Ram (USA) & Joe Salisbury CR 41 (20+21) 5-7 7-6(2) [10-7]

Honestly they didn't do a lot wrong there...

Not broken in the match ( just faced 2 BPs ) the lads couldn't make any headway against the opposition serve in the MTB.

So a potential Joe+ vs Jamie+ QF totally fell by the wayside.

But good to learn that they didn't do a lot wrong. Looks like they just couldn't impact enough on return ( 1/4 BPs taken themselves ).

I only watched the MTB - not a lot they could do against some massive serving from Querry in particular. And I agree, they didn't do a lot wrong.

Overall though, a disappointing couple of Masters events for the Brits in the US.

Jamie - seems to be going through a bad patch with Bruno. I guess speculation will be ongoing re longevity of that pairing, but they did ok down in Oz and for now are seeded highly in events, my instinct is they will stick at it through the clay and grass season and see if results will pick up.

Joe - despite this loss, he and Ram are doing well and highly ranked so just a result that could have gone either way

Dom - now needs to find a decent partner, Skugor had not been working for a while; Skugor of course won in round one with Jarry in Miami so hope Dom doesnt prove to be the issue. Not sure if Haase is or will be the answer, could do with finding someone in the top 30 relatively quickly, not sure if Mektic or Zeballos the two inform players with no definitive partner right now could be an option

Luke and Jonny - again, v good season and expect them to have a strong clay season having done well in South America last month

Neal and Ken - Feels like more and more Neal will need to play with other players than Ken to get into top events, wonder if this may lead to him finding a new longer term partner. Not sure if that could be Dom (is Neal too lowly ranked?) or maybe Jamie (if jamie and Soares split). Ken is a family man now so maybe he will play less or maybe find another partner for one last hurrah - I am sure many wont agree with me re Skupski's long term future though!

Scott Clayton - seems to be doing ok with Shamasdin, lets hope they can start to get into the ATP 250 event later in season.

Isner & Querrey were finally vanquished by the scratch pairing of Koolhoof & Tsitsipas (4-6 7-5 [8-10]).  hmm

Such narrow margins and  the MTB's could have gone either way in these matches. So glad the Slams don't have match tie breaks in doubles!
