Just 18 points to defend between now and the grass court season - from OER that's about 5 places drop for live #89.

When is the cut-off date for Wimbledon (I know I could look it up, but I'm feeling lazy)

Monday 20th May rankings for the Wimbledon main draw. Dan will be fine for that, joining Kyle and Cam.

Monday 3rd June rankings for the qualifying draw.

Presumably 15th April main draw cut off for French and even fewer ranking points he can drop , if any ? Hence why he is pretty much home for that event

Just dropping the 5 points on 6th April and 13 more on 27th April. After that 45 points for Surbiton on 10th June.

Edit Oops - as pointed out below, I did indeed mean May

Cool, assuming he plays French,  and assuming he takes a few weeks break now, given he will presumably play all the grass season, anyone got any insights on Dan's possible schedule over the clay swing?

For April read May  smile

So indeed nothing at all before the French MD cut-off of 15th April.

Following up his win over Cam, Thompson beat (10) Khachanov in straights. KK was pretty bad from reports.

I've been out until now, so I'm really sad to come back to the news Dan lost, but encouraged that he took it to Denis.

Thanks for the commentary Lee.

Well onwards to clay after a well earned break. I can't remember what he's like on clay?

A good run overall.

I think the year Dan got caught out at Barcelona was his first real go at main tour clay, but again not sure of his record.

He was loving it too, playing with a smile on his face.  I think he probably went into that tournament with little or no expectation and therefore, no fear.  His performances against Thiago Monteiro and Mischa Zverev, whilst different in style were both excellent in their own way.  Dan looked very comfortable on clay that week.  It was great to be there to watch live.

And looking at his record it was his first real go at clay and that week he got his first wins as it came together.

Theres no reason why he can't do well on clay with his guile,  similarly Tim henman played a canny game when he reached the French semis in 2004 , I think it was. Further back Johann Kriek of south Africa/ USA reached the semis by playing a mixed up game on clay. And players like edberg have reached the final using serve and volley. It can be done. Dan probably won't get into main draws yet but he's 3 masters events to go at in qualies,  unless he's missed Monte carlo cut, and perhaps those will be enough. Suspect he will give barca a miss smile

Alex Zverev knocked out by the Energiser Bunny. I really thought Ferrer had long since retired.

So, of the top 12 ranked, Nadal and Del Potro aren't here and 5 of the other 10 have been beaten in their first match.

Djokovic and Federer have Anderson, Isner and Tsitsipas for L32 company.

Re Sascha Zverev I am one to normally say give it time and it will probably all come together at the top level but this has been a very poor Indian Wells and Miami. He clearly has the ability to be doing very much better.
