Andreescu just doesn't give up, 4-6 1-5 down against Begu, saves a MP at 2-5, take it to a tie break which she wins convincingly, and then comfortably takes the decider. Incredible.
This means Jo will be on late. Ons Jabeur plays on the court next and then it's Jo, so it could be after midnight (our time) when she gets on.
So, Kvitova safely into round 3 with her feet up and Jo/Pegula haven't even got onto court yet and could be at least another 30 mins. I see the winner is scheduled to face Wang Q 4th on tomorrow, so around 5pm local - doubt they'll be finished by 10.30pm local tonight - tight turnaround.
Could still turn out that way, but I was expecting a really tough match here - Pegula has come a very long way this past 7/8 months. She was underranked due to injury, but I remember Gabi losing to her in a US Open warm up event (some US ITF) and Gabi was higher ranked at the time and I was a bit disappointed, pretty sure she beat Katy Dunne around that time as well, probably the same tournament, but since then she reached WTA Quebec final, a recent 125k final (losing to Andreescu) and is now in the top 100.
Interesting background as well as her dad is a billionaire and owns a couple of Tampa sports teams.
Yep, beat Gabi in Lexington, it was 287 vs 182 at that time - they've both gone in completely the opposite direction since then, then did beat Katy in the next round. WTA Quebec F followed by a 60k SF, SF in Houston 125k, F in Newport 125k as well as Midland 100k F, so has been in great form to get her ranking to 90 in such a short time. Not too many wins on the level of Jo, primarily those just outside the top 100, but she has beaten Kenin, Peterson and Martic, so obviously is capable.
Anyway, 7 games in a row for Jo. 6-1 *1-0. Would love her to keep this up so I can get to bed earlier than expected.

Re Jessica Pegula, she has been around a long time. Back in April 2009 at Ponta Vedra Beach, Marion Bartoli who was 13 in the World at the time finished up playing qualifying because I think she forgot to enter. She beat Jessica Pegula in the 2nd round of qualifying in what was a very early tournament in Pegula's career.
