Freya was 1st alt so just gets into the q draw. Unfortunately she's at the top end of the draw so win of this match could face the top q seed, Nuria PARRIZAS-DIAZ WR 327.

Freya was an instant break down but did well to come back, and take the first set 6-4

Good stuff, it was 3-4* last time I checked, so assumed the worst when I saw the update. 3 games in a row, including 2 breaks.

Good win for Freya. smile The q1 seed was also beaten, so let's hope she can win the next one too and gain a point for qualifying..

Freya has also been extremely clever in her choice of doubles partner this week - Valerie Savinykh. And at 204+117 they are top seeds!

Valeria is probably one of the reasons for Freya travelling to Russia this week - they were runners-up at Shrewsbury.

It's a W25+H, so 2 points for qualifying this week.

Freya started well here today in her FQR match winning the first set and going 2-0 up in the second, but has now been pegged back. Score 6-3 2-2*

Yeh, Freya !

That's 2 WTA points, isn't it?

And, more importantly, two very nice back-to-back wins.

There's three IR slots in the main draw too for qualifiers.......

Would be good to avoid Rodinova.

Really hope this (on top of her doubles) is the start of a really good year for Freya.

And Jodie too (who has started stronger). The two of them have been in the background too long.

Yes, that was a gutsy win from Freya, good to see her pull out such a victory. She was behind 2-4 in the second set, pulled back the break, and then had to hold serve twice at 4-5 and 5-6 to stay in the set, which she did. Then she went 0-2 and 3-4 down in the TB, so a wonderful performance in the end. Gains 2 points from that! Several q places against IR players, so hope she can gain one of those slots rather than the 3rd or 6th seed in the MD. Encouraging however! smile

Good stuff. Don't seem to get two many qualifiers in overseas 25k events these days, so to get 2 in one day is great. Some opportunities in the main draw as CD says and all 6 final qualifies have concluded so we should find out soon.

It's not one of the 3 IR's, but she did avoid the seeds. It's Ianchuk who Jodie beat 3 and 1 in Shrewsbury the other week. She's only played 2 matches this year and lost both of them in straight sets, although the other was to Samsonova the other week who is making a big climb in the rankings.
