Yes it is a great pair of results. Hope both of them can continue. Lopatetska is the giant killing junior, only 15yrs old and already nearly in the world top 300. Hope Jodie can prevail there. And may Gabi continue too. Between this week and then the end of the Miami tournament she has 80 points coming off, so she could do with a couple of big points hauls again. However it's a start for her to get two good wins in a row, so let's hope she is hitting some form again. Ruse was the beaten finalist last week.
And in the doubles, Gabi and Akiko Omae have won their QF against the Taiwanese 4th seeds 3-6 6-4 10-4 and Tara and Emina Bektas have won theirs 4-6 6-0 10-1, so a good day all round.
Yeah it's a bit ironic, she's just put out the top seed and plays an unseeded 15 year old next, sounds great on paper, yet it's a tougher match. Still, coming through Qs and putting out the top seed en route to the quarter final is a great return and anything else now is a bonus.
I also really hope Gabi's return can continue (and Jodie's of course).

The Greek player presented less problems to Jodie than she did to Katie Boulter in the Fed Cup.
I must admit I was surprised how well Gram..... played in the Fed Cup. I saw her at Chiswick last year and wasn't that impressed. But she did reach the final there, so perhaps I saw an off-day.
Still a very good win for Jodie who is showing some promise this year.
Gabi is 1/2 favourite here (she was equal 5/6 yesterday). Jodie is the 7/4 outsider in her match later (she was actually 4/6 fave to beat the Greek top seed yesterday), so that does suggest that this match is indeed a tougher prospect.
Fantastic wins for both. Jodie must really have Valentini's number.
Those who didn't have Jodie in their top 10 will be regretting it...
Bah. May she just continue surging up the rankings, far outstripping these who have her around the bottom of their top 10. She's closing in on the GB # 6 to 9 group, with some help from them, and getting closer to the top 300.
Seriously, been very good to see from Jodie and hopefully Gabi too is coming back to much better form again. Calm, Gabi.
Chuffed for Gabi. Qualifier Gleeson up next who has played 5 days straight including a couple of three setters, so hopefully that might catch up on her, although one of those matches also included the 6-2 RET win over Alicia.
Looking at Sofascore, it does look a good effort from Jodie and she had a fair few chances to break in the 2nd and 3rd sets, but not to be, but a great week nevertheless.
Keep going Gabi, here's hoping I must admit I tried watching a few games towards the end of the match on the emerald court and saw Gabi lose 2/3 service games she lost the whole match. A few hands on hip glares after hitting an error or serving a DF, so i quickly stopped watching (still couldn't see the ball anyway), and let her get on with the win. She wasn't varying her shots very much and I didn't see too many winners, but seemed to be serving relatively well, and in common with her good run last year was making very few errors. Was difficult to tell too much though with the poor viewing.
In the doubles Gabi and Akiko Omae lost in the SF 6-7(5) 6-3 4-10
Tara and Amina Bektas (USA) beat the German alt pair, Caroline Werner and Stephanie Wagner 6-2 6-2 however, and now face the Japanese alt pair, Haruna Arakawa and Minori Yonehara that beat Gabi + in the other SF.
The second piece of positive news for Gabi, after the fact that this is her first run of 3 wins for some time, is that her 18 points so far will stop her from falling into the 300s come the 1/4 ranking after Miami. However she still needs another 9 points before 8/4. Of course we hope she can keep her run going this week on the emerald courts... and she has one more tournament scheduled in Japan, at Kofu next week (and after which she is not down for any tournaments the following two weeks, including Bolton week of 1/4).
Katy D is in the same situation. She is currently just ahead of Gabi for the 1/4 live rankings, but also loses 9 pts the following week (both for reaching the QF in Canberra last April). This year Fran is the only GB entrant for the two Canberra W25 clay court tournaments, the first beginning next week.
