Week 11 - ITF (W25) - Nishi-Tama, Japan - Hard

Kind of got caught up the Felix Indian Wells match, but Jodie won 7-5 6-2.

Let's hope she gets one of the more favourable Q spots yo make up for the other tough draws here.

Jodie's first round spot is ok, a good junior, but then she is a better one herself, however after that she has potentially the top seed.

FQR: Jodie Anna BURRAGE (GBR) [q2] 345 beat Fatma AL NABHANI (OMA) [q9] 405 (CH:362 Oct 10) 7-5 6-2

R32: Jodie Anna BURRAGE (GBR) [Q] 345 vs Anna UREKE (RUS) [IR] UNR/66 (CH:645 Dec 18) 19yrs (JCH:151 July 14)

Sadly should have mentioned that Lissey also retired. Hasn't been much of a trip for her so far. cry

FQR: Alicia BARNETT (GBR) 478 lost to Quinn GLEASON (USA) [q5] 374 (CH:372 Feb 19) 2-6 ret

She and Jodie are in the doubles as an Alt pair, so hope she is still able to make that. Also means there are now 5 pairs with Brits represented in the doubles!

Jodie is a very big 1/12 favourite to beat Ureke.

The bookies have top seed Grammatikapolou only a very slight 8/11 to beat Harrison (winner of that plays winner of Jodie's match). Mind, there must be a reason with the Greek as Jodie was a 1/2 fave to beat her at Shrewsbury a few weeks ago which she did despite being 200-250 places below her.

Katy and Gabi should be about to get underway. You can stream Gabi's match. Both betting underdogs, Gabi slight, Katy reasonably big.

Weird light, looks like they're playing in the Emerald City. Not the blue skies and gum trees of Australia....

I've got Osaka on the TV and Kontaveit on the Bet365 stream, I quickly switched over to see how Gabi was getting on and while needs must, the contrast is huge. Bright lights, huge stadium, reasonably big crowd, line judges, ball kids, TV cameras with multi angles, 2 commentators and over in Japan there's Gabi picking up her own balls.

0-1 *40-40

It's windy too.... camera is bobbing up and down so much it can give you motion sickness. Can't see the ball either in the weird greenish light (caused by the court and walls being green and that's all you can see). Apart from that everything's fine...

 biggrin

While I wish her (and Katy) luck, I think I'll just stick to Indian Wells for now and keep an eye on the score.

Going well so far. Gabi *2-1 nd you could just about make out Katy's match on the next court on the stream and heard a 'come on', but is now facing another break point 2-2 *40-A.

Yes, I'm only tracking live scores now... Gabi with the first break, so hope she can keep it up. 3-1*
