Dan gets Wawrinka. The winner of that (29) Fucsovics and the winner of that probably (4) Federer in the L32.

Kyle vs Dan set for the L16  smile

A lot at stake, a flaming rivalry not certain who is leading the head to head if you include the golf. I understand Dan takes it so seriously he took a year off to practice.

Well that is a comprehensive result. Go Dan. A great way to send me on my travels early this morning. See you all in Brazil.

Stan of course best evo in 5 sets in the US open in 2016, their only match. Should be fascinating to see where Dan is at, presumably he will play tomorrow.

Today, cam has a fascinating match v FAA

Horrid draw - the worst he could have got. Wawrinka won't be delighted either, although judging from what I saw of him in Rotterdam he'll have too much for Dan.

Rest up after that and on to Miami qualies!

Dans first Masters 1000 main draw since his drugs ban.

 Sounds like a BBC headline

Very bad draw for Dan against resurgent Stan, who is #38 in live rankings. Probably a tougher match than against anyone outside the top 16.

The Canuck's going to be a bit of a handful, I feel...

L96:  BYE vs (22) Kyle Edmund WR 23 (CH = 14 last October)

Jarry or Tiafoe in the last 48.

L96:  (Q) Daniel Evans WR 100 vs Stan Wawrinka (SUI) WR 40 (CH = 3 in January 2014)  cry

At least he has a day off...

But at least Dan has played him before.  I'm sure he has spent countless hours mentally going over their previous encounter.  So lots of homework already done.

The head-to-head is 0-1:  it took Stan the Man five sets to beat him in the last 32 of the US Open in 2016 (4-6 6-3 6-7(6) 7-6(8) 6-2)...

This is a bit like his Aus Open match with Roger, absolutely nothing to lose so he can just go out there and go for it. And if he wins absolutely fantastic, if not he gets a welcome 10 days rest and regroup before Miami creaks into life.

So Dan won 2 of the first 3 sets. That's encouraging.

I looked at the possibilities after he qualified and thought he'll be fine if he draws anyone except Stan.  He's very unlucky to get such a tough first round draw in a 96 man field.  I'm sure it will be a great match but I somehow doubt he'll be able to make much progress at this tournament.  We'll have to hope a couple of weeks off will make him fresh to go again in Miami.
