L96:  (WC) Félix Auger-Aliassime (CAN) WR 58 (= CH) vs Cameron Norrie WR 48 (= CH)

The Canuck's going to be a bit of a handful, I feel...

L96:  BYE vs (22) Kyle Edmund WR 23 (CH = 14 last October)

Jarry or Tiafoe in the last 48.

Yes, in play. The second match on Dan's court is fairly early in the 3rd set and then there is Wickmayer vs Doi and then Dan vs Bemelmans so good luck Dan and night, night.

The 2nd match has just finished so one more before Dan, but I'm also away to bed. His potential FQR opponents are about to get underway.

Well, didn't expect to see Dan's start but after 3 am I did. Just been broken for 1-3*. So certainly hope things improve.

Having started an IW men's doubles thread, I have added "singles" to this thread title.

And Dan has won, 6-4, 6-4.
Rubin up next who came through in 3 sets.

Just remind me, if Dan wins fqr does he get 16 points plus 10 for first round main draw (or wherever he eventually gets to).

Qualie draws in lower half of main draw look more inviting should Dan beat Rubin, which I think he should do.

It looks like he has 8 points in the bank for the first win and then will get another 8 for beating Rubin and then a guaranteed 10 extra minimum for qualifying. So 8 if he loses to Rubin, 26 (overall) if he qualifies but loses R1, 41 if he loses R2 etc.

There is a Q vs Q draw in the top half, but a bit like at the AO, that favourable draw would result in a very tough R2 match, this time Djokovic. If he was thinking of an extended run then the Copil, Haase or Kukushkin spots in the bottom half may be his best bet.

But he obviously has to beat Rubin first before we plot his best possible route, ha.

I saw in the second set that at 4-4* Dan had scored only 2 points on return, saved a BP and won 6 less points.

He then won 5 return points in game 9 to break and having pounced then served out to 15, still with a point less in the set overall.

Yes, I followed the second set, it was not very convincing at all. No aces and low number on return points but still he found a way to win. He really has not had a great deal of recovery time from his recent exertions.

QR1:  (q10) Daniel Evans WR 100 defeated Ruben Bemelmans (BEL) WR 145 by 4 & 4  smile

I didn't even have to fire up my laptop before I left for work this morning:  the Beeb is showing even qualies results on digitext!

****

FQR:  (q10) Daniel Evans WR 100 vs Noah Rubin (USA) WR 153 (CH = 125 last October)

Dan up to 96 in the live rankings already, but a lot of water to pass under the bridge before that is cemented in the official rankings.

Just hope for a good water-cement ratio and for Dan to have further success before it all sets.

I think if Dan does get the win in FQR today, then it should push him up a few places to around 90 in live rankings. As said, clearly a long way to go but for Dan the point is largely that the trajectory will only be up, it is just how fast and how far.
