I know it can go against principles and it'll probably be too late to set one up now (for this match), but I can't stress how brilliant Bet365 (or other betting sites) are for tennis fans - pretty much every WTA match with English commentary, thanks to WTA TV and every ATP match (not always with comms), plus the slams and a choice of other matches as well - you could watch the Santiago Challenger final now if you wanted and it'll have ITFs whenever there is a stream available and it's so easy to flick between them. Full screen available, decent enough quality and no chance of any dodgy virus' or spending half an hour looking for one.
You don't even need to place a bet ever, just deposit a fiver and leave it in and watch as many matches as you like. I've currently got Jo on BT and Ostapenko on the laptop.
Having written all that, it actually depends what decent means as it's obviously not superb HD quality and might be no better than the streams you had, but most of the other points still stand.
Yeah, although none were on her serve (if I remember correctly), there did seem a couple of good opportunities and there were a couple on the Bertens 2nd serve as well. Maybe a chance missed, long way back now and I felt Jo had to get the first set, but I do echo Paul and that it is great to see her playing well again.
There really is nothing between these two, and Bertens is a top 10 player. AV is right - there were two good opportunities on second serves at 10-9 and 10-10 but Jo failed to get either return into court and I knew then that the set was gone. The second set seems equally tight. Can she find a way to nick this one.....
Shame she didn't take that tie break and she did have her chances in the second set, but glass half full for me - encouraging signs and it's generally been a very positive start to the year. Onwards and upwards and back to a happy place in Miami for her next.
I see 18 year old Bianca Andreescu gave a 55 minute, 6-1 6-2 beat down on Voegele. Penny for Sloane Stephens thoughts there.
Close but not quite enough in the end. However good signs in Jos tennis to take forward. I would echo comments made by others from the other day that she is showing a more rounded game instead of just trying to hit the ball harder and harder until either her or her opponent makes a mistake.
So yes I am disappointed that Jo lost but watching the match was so much more entertaining than some of her matches last year and I hope that she can build on this going forward.
Onwards now to Miami where there must be some happy memories for her. Good luck Jo!
It seems that she's physically back up there, but still hasn't got the mental toughness on clutch points, and the low UEs that she had when she had her mental coach around.
