Katy's (second) good day continues. She and Ivan Jorovic (SRB) have just taken out the top seeds, Na-Lae Han (KOR) and Peangtarn Plipuech (THA) 4-6 6-1 10-3 in the doubles QF.
Rather unfortunately because of the rain delay yesterday, they will also play their doubles SF today too. The unfortunately because 3 matches in one day is a lot.. And suspect that tomorrow two singles matches could also be lined up. Hope Katy can keep going and stay fit.
A singles match of 6-1 3-1 ret is not really a major workout, so two doubles matches on top is not too burdensome. (Their opponents have played their doubles match first too, although not had an abbreviated singles match too). Assuming Katy is fit in the first place, it should be OK.
Well, I certainly assume Katy is fit, since she and her partner are going straight back on court to play their doubles SF!!! That's about 15 mins rest between matches.
SF: Katy Dunne/ Ivana Jorovic (GBR/SRB) 850 (158+692) vs Risa Ushijima/ Minori Yonehara (JPN/JPN) [WC] 1167 (658+509)
There's an 'interrupted' now in that SF at 2-2. If that's rain, it's possibly why they went back on court so swiftly after the QF. We'll see if it's it for the day or not, but if they are going to schedule both the singles QF and SF matches tomorrow, they probably would like to have finished this doubles SF today. The first doubles SF was completed just before this interruption.
Yes end of day confirmed now on the OOP. Soooooo Katy potentially faces a singles QF, singles SF, doubles SF and doubles F tomorrow... Good luck to her

Really pleased for Katy, that's twice now this week she's won when not the betting favourite and first back to back wins for a while. Hopefully she can make this Japanese trip as successful as her stint in Aus last year, assuming she is planning to play the string of 25k events in the coming weeks, and get her ranking back towards the slam Q cut off point in time for the summer.
It's 3rd seed Lu Jiajing up next, who beat Hev in Hong Kong quals last year (but lost comfortably to Katie B the week later in a Chinese ITF event), not to be confused with another Chinese 29 year old, Lu Jingjing who Gabi beat in FO quals last year.
Edit - 4th seed, which TA already pointed out on the previous page.

Katy is third in the qualifying list for Yokohama (2SE MD places empty) next week, and 15th in the main draw acceptance list for Nishi-Tama the following week, so hopefully she can stay fit. She's also on the list for the week after that, but the withdrawal deadline is next Tuesday, 5th March so we'll have to wait for that one.
And that was the end of Katy's tournament. Her doubles partner Ivana Jorovic is also the top singles seed and has made it through to the final after two three set matches today and a total of nearly 5 hours on court (well 4hrs 44 mins). Not surprisingly she and Katy withdrew from their uncompleted doubles SF and the final is now under way.
As for next week, Katy is still 3rd on the qualifying list. I'm sure she'd dearly love not to play qualifying, but with a queue of Japanese players behind her looking for MDWCs, I'm not sure she'll make it, though she may possible be helped by the SEs not being needed if there is any further withdrawal from the MD list.
