I don't knew if you thought he got 10 points for that win but it was only 5 meaning he is at 101 in live rankings.

...what confused me was that live rankings showed Dan as only being in last 32, so I assumed they hadnt updated for the 5 points. But they had, it was me forgetting we have these 48 draw fields now....

There are quite a few players close to Dan in the rankings who are still in tournaments this week, so a lot depends on what happens in Acapulco and Sao Paolo.

Dan gets another mention on the Beeb site. A photo, four sentences about him, two of which mention his ban.  I'm pleased that a British player gets a few lines for winning R1 of a challenger, but I respectfully suggest that Auntie's coverage is getting a bit samey.  Maybe if Dan wins later tonight they can just cut and paste for tomorrow.

I have had far too much time on my hands in the past and used to contact the Beeb on a regular basis to say a world no 300 losing to a world no 4 (lets say)
Is not 'crashing out' if they went the distance, they are losing to a player rated significantly higher than them and it was according to seedings the expected result.

It doesn't give credit to a GB player who has played themselves into a big draw it just makes them sound like 'losers' rather than having lost a match to a much more experienced player.

I've followed Dan for years and would prefer to see him play than some of our higher ranked players, he gives great show.
Plenty of players have had suspensions and questionable histories but you don't see the lazy journalism surrounding them in reporting .

Gasquet, Sharapova, Cilic and the like probably have better PR and media managers.

Looks like Caruso is about to sing with his opponent showing a lacko fight in the final set. 4-1 Dan on next.

With a small nod to everything but the girl

Armchair, I'm rubbing my eyes here.  Am I right in thinking it's a long time since you posted but you really were  very much a regular when I first joined this board?  Anyway, a welcome sight for sore eyes, and forgive me if I  am just confused.

And I do  very much agree with  what you say here.

Just put this on to watch Dan's match. Does Mike Caton not do the commentary for the USTA any more?

First set to Dan 6-4

Dan takes the first set 6-4.  I'm a big fan of Mike Cation (wish he could do Wimbledon) but he can only commentate on one match at a time.

I didn't think of that.  Are you saying he's there but commentating on a different court?  And sorry I spelt his name wrong.

Chill re. the spelling!   We all knew who you meant.  I havemade the assumption that Mike C is commentating on a match on a stadium court, I hope he is still plying his trade

If bonus points were awarded for sarcastic humour, Dan would be far more highly ranked.

3-4 in the 2nd, going with serve
