Week 9 - Oracle Challenger ($162,480+H) - Indian Wells, CA, USA (hard)

Takes the set 6-4. Not looking quite as sharp as a few days ago, but that's not surprising.
Looks like the 6'6" american wild card is vunerable to the top-spin lob - Dan got him twice in one game.

Dan did a very good job, after the drama of Sunday, in keeping that match to two sets, always in control, but not a complete slamdunk.

NB Hadn't noticed that Max had changed nationalities from French to American last year.....

Didn't watch enough of it - started looking for a stream at 4-5 *0-30 and by the time I got got it working, Evo had held and then had 3 BPs.

Hadn't even clocked Dan was on, 6-4 7-5. Takes him back to live 100 and also top 30 In race, ahead of Federer who is 38th.

Tehee!  After a couple of days' rest, Dan keeps the momentum going:

L48:  Daniel Evans WR 105 defeated (WC) Maxime Cressy (USA) WR 310 by 4 & 5

And Cam's now 36 in the race with that Federer guy down to 40.

Hopefully Dan will still be playing at this level or better at 32. Technically Dan plays (admittedly with slightly less consistency) not in a dissimilar way to Federer, although Dan puts incredible torque through his back when serving, so perhaps we can hope for an extended career.

I am sure after last weeks success he is mentally in a good place and very highly motivated but form is temporary and class permanent, Dan from a technical tennis perspective has the later, indeed presently both. My point is he needs to respect his body and do the stuff before and after he plays that will allow him to play well into his thirties. Very good that he kept his early round game to two sets.  There is an incredible opportunity for him given the missing generation ie top class players between 25 and 30.

Federer like Sampras had an incredible knack of winning early round matches with scores like 6-3 7-5 , a break each set, no sweat job done. I'm always sure that has been part of feds longevity
