Although Dan has a good first match his path is then istomin, Donaldson, krajonovic. Wouldn't surprise me to see Dan not repeat his current weeks exploits
Yeah Id be surprised if Dan plays. If he was seeded and therefore had a round 1 bye might have been different. Only advantage of playing is to get use to the courts there before masters Qualifying.

My thoughts exactly. Just do a round and then rest at most. Big points up for grabs for IW proper.
As it stands, Harrison, Garcia Lopez, Pospisil , Krajinovic, and Donskoy will all stand to drop points. Garcia Lopez and Pospisil are not into the main draws this week.
Whether that will encourage Dan to give it a go and play at least a round or two this week, let's see
Not sure why we should particularly see less players in the top 50 opt for challengers now.
If you are ranked top 50, as with Kyle here, you would undoubtably get a bye to the L32 and L16/R3 here would be your second round of action after just one win. Challengers will be basically as was for points for these players, R1/L48 being irrelevant to them, with here their points ranging from 10 points for one win to 125 points for the title.
They will just continue to play them as occasionally warrants such as Kyle coming back from injury, quite apart from getting used to the IW courts.
As before, I agree debatable for Dan with his exertions from last week and for him starting in R1.
I just see it is a vulture for points to be honest. The Chinese top seed is ranked18! Surely they would both be seeded in one of the other tournies?
OTOH, they in on Wc's so its a tournament choice and might be a draw for the crowd.
Means Wang Qiang in the WTA 125k equivalent. She got one of the 'top 50' WCs so don't know the deal with those and whether tournaments have to accept them, or what they do if there were a few who wanted one.
She is actually in a very similar position to Kyle, not played since the Aussie Open due to injury. She also needs a new coach, but her coach retiring was announced before she entered this event.
She does look a bit out of place here, but I guess she's in the exact same location next week for a much bigger event and it will give herself a chance to ease back into things and gain confidence (2-2 this year) against slightly weaker opposition and get used to her new coach before the more important stuff.
