Week 8 - (ITF W25) - Glasgow, GB Hard

Freya lost 6-4 6-7(3) 5-7. That one's gonna hurt a lot. The opponent was 25/1 in play at one point.

2 more SPs for Fran and one will be on her serve...

And she takes it on her second, get in. 7-6(5).

Emma Rad faces Savinykh in the next round, the former top 100 player who Maia beat in the Shrewsbury final, rather than the seeded Georges.

She seemed SO dominant in that first set and most of the second.... ALL those opportunities to finish it off in the second... serving for it, MPs... and then didn't die and go away in the third......yes, that's got to really hurt.

Gutted for Freya. Doesn't seem to be ale to get her mojo back.

Well, to be honest, I expected her to lose more easily (much as I root for her).

So maybe she has got her mojo back and is playing a lot better - BUT just didn't have the luck/confidence/whatever to get that final point today.

I know we often get accused of being overly optimistic about mere crumbs from the table but it's just possible that this is indeed Freya on the up.....

The only problem is it'll probably Bolton before she can get a chance to add points and she's used 2 of her ITF MDWCs already. There definitely are signs though (even though I obviously didn't see it) and it was good that she came back from either 2-5 or 3-5 to get it back to 5-5 and didn't just go away as CD said. It really is a shame.

But better news is that Fran has just broken to love and now leads 7-6 *3-2. Wasn't expecting this at all. It would be superb if we could have got 3 of our 5 through.

You wait 16 games for a break and as usual, 2 come along at one. 3-3*

Make that 3 smile, *4-3

Yeah, decimals do make it easier when you put it out like that, especially when comparing something like 4/5 to 10/11 or equivalent, but fractions are by far the most common type in the UK and you'll normally have to manual change your preference to decimal and all the in play adverts will have their promotions in fractions, so my mind just works that way, but appreciate some of the close ones it can be a bit of a hassle to work out.

Got to say I still find the 'old' way easier.

4/5 - chance of 5 in 9. 10/1 - chance of 1 in 11. x/y - chance of y in (x+y). Simple.  But I'm that old guy who a few days ago became eligible for a free bus pass

 Indeed, happy birthday.

I do prefer fractions as I'm most use to it, but sometimes, I do need to work things out. I know 4/5 is (just) more likely than 10/11 because I'm so used to seeing those respective odds in match ups, but in some cases, I do have to work it out in my head when it's not obvious - e.g. say 5/4 vs 6/5, if I wasn't sure which was more likely, I'd convert them to /20 so it would be 25/20 vs 24/20 and therefore 6/5 is slightly more likely to happen.

From 15-40* down Fran breaks and will again try to serve out the match.

*6-5
