Week 8 - (ITF W25) - Glasgow, GB Hard

Good effort from the girls but Freya and Jana fall just short again, losing the MTB 10-3

Freya will have to make some decisions shortly. Her doubles ranking is going one way and her singles the other way.

While Freya is still in the LTA squad as a singles player (on training camps, getting wildcards etc.) I don't think there's any risk of her dropping doubles.
If the LTA drop her, then it will be harder.

Speaking of single's rankings going the other way, it is a bit strange seeing Jana Fett at 263 and not really thriving even at this 25k level. About 15 months ago she was in the top 100, made a WTA semi final (and really should have made the final) and then infamously had match points against Wozniacki at the 2018 Australian Open, but now at her lowest ranking for over 2 years.

Maia battling well. Unlike yesterday, there's been no breaks of serve thus far. 6-5*

I think Maia has just DF'd at *6-5 in the tie break. Now set point to Ponchet 6-7*

Gonna be an awful set for either to lose. Maia also had *10-9, but back on serve.

Ponchet takes it on her 2nd SP 6-7(10). Maia had 3 SPs in the TB, at least 2 on serve.

Two double faults by Maia and one double fault by Ponchet at the end of that game. It looked as if both were doing their best to lose the set.

Ponchet has just served three DF in a row to hand a break back to Maia. *1-2

Good fight from Maia here to get it back from *2-5 to 5-5* in the second set.

And now breaks to 15! *6-5. Thought the match would be gone quite quickly after that first set, so this is great to see.
