There you are, be great if it was a precedent young Emily followed

As it is she starts the week having burst into the WTA top 500 for the first time since August 2016, up 10 to WR 494 in the latest rankings.

Missed three break points at 2-2* and then basically fell apart

Both players trying to get into net so quite fun in that respect

2-6 *0-1

Em finally gets a break, at the seventh attempt. On serve in the second at *2-3.
I'm enjoying this one, plenty of variety.

In the doubles Soumeya is reunited with Kimmelmann as WCs but play the 2nd seeds.
Emily and Shapatava are drawn against the top seeds

Quite a battle this one. From *2-3 to *2-5 to *4-5

Lost 2 and 4. Didn't take her chances and was broken a few times from game point up (including last game when she had 40-15). So had chances to really push this one.

But as said above tons of variety from both.

Another tough doubles draw to boot.

I have to say that Emily has been very critical of the new format and that she has not been able to compete at the level she aspires to.
Unfortunately results don't lie. Emily has hardly won a singles match at 25k or higher for quite some time and I cannot remember when she beat a higher ranked opponent.
Perhaps she needs to be a bit more realistic.
If she wants to play singles, she needs to drop a level.
If she wants to play doubles at that level, she may have to become a doubles specialist.

She's won a handful of qualifying matches in the last six months, but all against much lower-ranked opponents. The only main draw in that time appears to be in India in December - and that was a tight one. She doesn't look far off the standard, but as you say, she really needs to drop a level and go down the ITF route to get some wins.

Lost the MTB 11-9, having had one match point themselves.
