Lissey 6th alt to get into qualifying in the latest Japan list. Freya 7th, Tara 9th, EWS 12th, Sam 17th.

Yes, I was a bit surprised to see her post, but that's where she is.

There's only 17 in the qualifying list, so there are 3 vacancies in the draw. There'll be 2 further vacancies created as 2 from qualy will fill the final 2 MD spots. With the top 5 alts in the list having moved into qualy, that will put Lissey as next in to qualy from any late withdrawal. It would be reasonable to assume that there are Japanese girls in qualy who have a MDWC which would creata a vacancy for Lissey to be in qualy without any withdrawals.

One reason Lissey has gone is that she is already 4th alt for the following week too, so definitely likely to get into that. I would be surprised if she doesn't manage to get into this coming week too.

RedSquirrel is spot on as usual. Lissey is in qualifying as the last entrant - and Katy must be in the main draw.

Not quite the last entrant. There are three local players further down the alt list that are also in the q draw without WCs - Risa Ushijima and Ayumi Miyamota and Himeno Sakatsume. I checked because I was interested to see if any other of our players just behind Lissey in the alt list might have got in if they had turned up!

Ah, OK, I checked one or two (Bandecchi, Ho ...) but not far enough down the list obviously.

Yes, it's the local players that will make up the numbers, since most foreigners are not going to travel unless they're sure of getting in smile

Our geographical position would never allow it considering how many European players dominate the rankings, but wouldn't it be great if we could put on an ITF event and have 10 of the 15 direct entrants plus another in the IR spots and another at the top of the qual list.

When you consider the 4 MDWCs and that more than half of the quals will be Aussies, there could easily be 20 home players in the main draw. That would be fantastic to follow and it obviously gives their players a far better chance to boost their rankings and then enter bigger events later in the year, especially the ITF grass season here.

George Loffhagen and Toby Martin were 2nd and 3rd in the quali list for Qatar.

The quali draw is now out with Toby as top Q see so looks like George has made the main draw.
