Week 8 - WTA Premier 5 ($2.8M) Dubai, UAE Hard

Super result for Beth & Eden  biggrin

Re Beth & Olivia I have always got the impression that they were a pair of reasonable equals with slightly different strengths who wanted to rise as a pair. And one relatively huge result with its ranking effect with Eden is not in itself reason to suddenly abandon that partnership once Olivia is fit.

Anyway I would hope possible doubles specialist is still some way down the road for Beth, 23 yo current singles GB #11.

Beth and Eden just started - I'm not very confident about this one !

On the board 1-4*

A bit of a disparity in career prize money as pairs $1,765,341 to $50.

They lost 6-1 6-3 - but did get a break of serve in the second set.

That's quite a respectable score against a top doubles pairing - both WR15=

6-1, 6-3 at Doubles is essentially like a 6-0, 6-1 singles defeat. Good cash and nice trip though. Hopefully back to the tennis and a good way to fund a couple of trips for the rest of the season.

I wasn't going to respond, but looking at the stats 36 points to 53 against opponents of that ranking is actually pretty damn good for a scratch pair.

I think what Jaggy is saying is the scores in doubles are generally far closer than in singles. Which is true. And so Eden and Beth's score is a pretty decisive loss, for doubles.

Correct CD, well explained and true in the majority of occasions.
