The drawsheet on the WTA website says that Babos has been moved to the main draw. Seems a bit odd that they move the Q9 seed ?
Babos was ranked 65 at the entry deadline, which would put her in the region of being a high alt. I see Tennisteen's last update had next in being Lapko with an entry ranking of 63.
Almost a huge upset in one of the other qualifiers. #528 Julia Elbaba took the first set off #88 Hercog 7-5 and then had an MP at *6-5 in the second set tie break and another at 7-6*, but ended up losing that and they're into a third set there. I'm sure Elbaba was around 14/1 pre-match.
Elbaba lost. No points or glory for "almost upsets". In the end, rankings are there for a reason.

She did indeed get no points, but I was just pointing out how a massive underdog put up such a great effort and while we both didn't see the match, it's not as if Hercog was toying with her and the result was never in doubt - she was literally an ace, a double-fault or a missed volley from losing to someone more than 400 places below her.
If that was say Alicia Barnett, who is a similar age and ranking to Julia, or since she is already there, Eden, we'd all be going on about 'it's great she can compete', 'hopefully she can use this to push on', rather than simply stating rankings are there for a reason.
Might have been worth Emily staying on and banking another couple of grand!
Shame Eden couldn't take the opportunity when her draw opened up.
Yeah, it is a shame. Hradecka was a clear favourite, much more experienced and coming in on the back of winning a 25k event, but she is still ranked circa 400 and a double's specialist and one win here (20 points) would have been worth more than had she reached the SF in Glasgow next week as a WC which seemed more unlikely.
Interesting, it is the aforementioned Hercog up next for Hradecka in the FQR.

Would we now? I would be saying anything about Alicia or indeed Eden because I have never seen them play nor follow them overly much so I hink I would be saying exactly the same thing about them as I did Elbaba (and the same goes for Eden to be honest). Unlike some of this forum, just because someone plays for GB, doesn't mean I automatically think they should be winning or hyping them up when there is little evidence to be hyped.

That's the point though, I certainly don't think Elbaba should be beating the likes of Hercog (nor would I expect Alicia to, for tat matter), I was expecting a routine 2-6 2-6 or something. I just think she should be commended a bit on her efforts, you clearly don't, and given this is actually a British tennis forum, I'm sure it wouldn't just be some either, I'd imagine it would be more like 90% of the posters who commented would be offering praise if a 25 year old Brit, ranked around 500 was playing well above her level, reaching MPs against a well established top 100 player who has played in 34 slam main draws.
Your original comments just came across a bit arrogant and dismissive IMO, but each to their own.
Babos is out , she will be playing Lucie Hradeka now ! Notice Sabine Liskici is here with a WC having just not shown up at Shrewsbury last week.
Yeah, that was a bit confusing - she reckoned she pulled out a week before the tournament due to illness and was surprised she was still in the draw when it was made, but whether she really got a late call about this and subsequently pulled out, we'll never know.
She's just lost 6-1 6-2 to Diyas anyway. I'm a fan, but it is amazing (and a shame) how a career can just slip away and she's just 29, so not as if it she is just naturally declining
Lisicki got a last minute offer of that wild card. Phone call after practice yesterday and an overnight flight to get there and play today. (via Instagram)
She's had a bad time recently, hope she can get going again.
Wtf ace? All I said originally was factual! A 3 set loss is perhaps better than expected but the overall conclusion was not. You don't get much for a 3 set loss.
Anyway, I'm out.
