Great result for Maia - she must love Shrewsbury! I get the feeling she doesn't travel well. She produces some brilliant results at home but can't seem to replicate this form on her travels. Meanwhile Naomi continues to disappoint. I thought she had one of the more reasonable draws and I don't can't help feeling that she hasn't justified her wild card. Still think she would have been better playing qualifying and trying to pick up some points. Sorry if you think I'm being overly critical.

I don't think that's over critical and a run in quals (especially when she was already in the qual draw) may well have been better, although she has been losing at 25k level as well recently - it is really difficult to see where she goes from here. Regarding the wildcard, with Dunne out as well as the higher profile withdrawals, she at least brought a little bit of name value to the tournament and a familiar face amongst casual British tennis fans, plus at this time, there wasn't really too many alternatives for a 60k MDWC so I've no problem with her getting one. I'm not sure what the criteria is regarding Glasgow with her not on the entry list, but even if allowed, I wouldn't give her a MDWC there.
Looks like Laura and Emma have one, Maia will surely get one if she is fit enough to play and I'd give the 4th one to Jodie.

In respect of Maia, I understand your reasoning, but is it really a good idea to use 2 of the 3 MDWCs so early in the year? Wouldn't you want to hold some back for the 100Ks and 25Ks later in the year?

Is it not 4 ITF MDWCs? If 3 then that might be a bit different, especially as she is in quals by right - just a shame with it being in Scotland.
I guess there'd always be the QWC option for Surbiton, Manchester and Ilkley if needed, or she could do what a lot did last year and get a QWC into Notts, Brum or Eastbourne and assuming we still have our Chiswicks, Wirrals, Woking etc. the other side of the grass season, it would be nice if she was ranked high enough for main draw entry or if not, direct qual entry. But yes, decisions need to be made and forward planning.
