A stroke of luck with a seed withdrawing, but she's had a tough time recently, so it's nice for her to get that opportunity. I was going to say she should take over that seeding, but that's not really the case here. It's Allertova up next who was the 2nd seed when initial entries came out but has dropped 200 places after her Aussie Open 2018 last 16 points (as a qualifier) came off. She was out from Wimbledon 2018 to Aussie Open 2019 and is getting back into things, bu has obviously operated at a MUCH higher level, so this will be tough for Tara. Allertova will be rested as well having won her match 5-0 ret. earlier.
On a side note, I see Tereza Martincova and Ana Konjuh are currently battling it out, 5-5, here in round 1. That's a pretty big coup to have in the first round of a 25k event and would look much more in place in the Shrewsbury 60k QF or SF.
Martincova is in great form, coming through Qs and reaching Taipei 125k QF, 3rd round of AO quals and coming through quals in St Petersburg Premier to reach the last 16 in her last 3 events and Konjuh, despite her young age, has been seeded in slams.
Yes, just to add that this is Tara's 3rd biggest counter now, and only the third time in the last year that she has reached R16 of a tournament. The other two occasions were both W60 events in Japan last May. It will require some performance from Tara to go any further this week too.
Forgot about this match. Tara unfortunately lost the tie break comfortably (to 2), but it is on serve in the second set *3-3. That set started with 4 breaks of serve.
