Looks like a good day for the brits, is it 5 into Last 16.

Is it just me or does anyone find the itf rankings sort of meaningless when comparing the 2 players. They don't tell me who is the better player really so I'm finding it not really a good guide on the merit of any given win against a player I maybe don't know too much about e.g. non brits.

Yes, five it is, Jon, & no, it's not just you:  as far as I'm concerned, the ITF rankings are currently worse than useless as a benchmark.  In mitigation, I suppose it could be argued that the new system is less than two months old, so is only just starting to find its feet as a means of comparison.  Whether it turns into one once the stats have been built up remains to be seen...

Yes, very difficult to get any sort of feel when they are rankings based on performances in just a lower subsection of tournaments.

I guess it kind of orders these who only play ITF transition tournaments but not these dropping in between otherwise spending varying amounts of time in ATP/WTA ranking events.

So unless really investigating more I think you lose part of the narrative as to how challenging a match may be.

If only there was a way you could order it in one big list so you get perspective....

Yes, though golly that's a bit radical, I wonder if it's even possible ...

Probably could be done in Excel quite easily. I often import entry lists to form my own tables for reference.
Could do with the absent gurus for that though.

Indeed - we could call it the ATP Rankings and be done with it

Jack lost 2-6 4-6

His opponent is 21 years old, used to be JWR 13, now ATP 412 (CH 296), for those who like to follow how top juniors progress.

Poor Anton served for the match at 5-3 (I think it was) in the third.

Couldn't get it done, ended up in a TB, which he lost 1-7.

But excellent effort against the third seed.

Yeah, only one break, but had a 5-2* lead and had one MP at 5-3 (A-40), but not be be.
