Week 6 - (ITF W15) - Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt Hard

QF: Emilie Lindh Gallagher/ Marianna Zakarlyuk (GBR/UKR) UNR (UNR/847) 'lost' to Merel Hoedt/ Noa Liauw A Fong (NED/NED) [2] 1152 (576/576) walkover

This could be because of Emilie, who retired in her singles match, so that seems quite likely.

However, Zakarlyuk, despite being top seed, lost to a qualifier in her singles today, so it might be because of her too.

It was that WC Sherif who beat Tiff last week to reach the QFs. She also beat Zakarlyuk in the round prior 4 and 4, so we probably can assume it was ELG.

It'll be Emilie. She withdrew from Sharm next week after her retirement.

Yeah, that first set was about 1 hour 20 - must be awful being in such a long, close set and not taking it. Obviously even worse ultimately losing the match.

At least Emily went through although she has a very tough match next up against former top end junior Simona Waltert who won last week without dropping a set, reached the final the week before as well as winning an event in Italy just before Christmas without dropping a set and beating young Garland in the final. So 14 wins from her last 15, winning 29 of 31 - good luck with that Em.

On the board now with a couple of holds in the second set. *2-2.

That prior post was meant to say 29 of the last 31 sets, which of course is now 30 of her last 32.

QF: Emily Appleton/ Linnea Malmqvist (GBR/SWE) [1] 1455 (722+733) LOST to Jenny Duerst/ Anastasia Pribylova (SUI/RUS) UNR 3-6 6-3 3-10
Looks like a very patchy match. Emily and Linnea lost the first set from 3-1 up. They were then hauled back from 5-1 to 5-3* in the second, and less said about the MTB the better !

I see that the unranked wildcard Sherif, that some people had highlighted above, went on to win the event.

Well done to her.

And I'm pleased - coz if an Egyptian player does well, the powers-that-be will be happy and keep on holding events !
