Makarova retired in her doubles on Tuesday, before losing to Eden in the singles on Wednesday. So must have a problem.
Good news for Fran though. I also see that Jodie is 3rd alt so still in with a chance for direct entry into qualifying. Eden must be in with a good chance of a MDWC after this week's performance.

Perhaps. But there's also been talk of Tessah having issues, and she had a really long match in qualis that she lost, so unless you're A1 sure, it's possible that the doubles w/o/ was due to Tessah, not Makarova.
Ruse out following her retirements in her last 2 tournaments, so that means Jodie is in Qs as of right. Maia may have an outside chance of sneaking into the main draw and saving a WC - she is 4 out at the moment, there are 2 SE spaces, so not sure if they will be needed and Juvan retired from her match yesterday, so she may well eventually sneak in.
Deborah Chiesa is now out as well. Yashina lost, so that means Harmony Tan will be in the main draw now. Savinykh and Marcinkevica to replace Ruse and Chiesa and then that means Tan and Aubrey are next in. As RS says, only Tan and Maia are eligible for the SEs so that'll mean Tan is in regardless and Maia can pass Albie if she reaches the final? Or one more withdrawal, e.g. Juvan (or anyone else) and she will be in automatically.
The more in directly the better, to save a WC for that person, but to also give someone else like Lissey (assuming she is fit enough) the chance to compete who otherwise wouldn't. Eden will also just be one withdrawal off getting into Qs directly.
I guess if Diatchenko wins this event then there's a possibility she could withdraw herself. She's top seed and ranked nearly 100 places ahead of the 3rd seed.
I think it will be a major surprise if Jodie hasn't got a main draw WC, so that should free up the qualifying spot Eden needs to get in directly.
Yeah, you'd think so, it would certainly be deserved - unless for whatever reason she was happy going through quals, although with the Q point changes and 2 games in one day, I can't see it - she can always play Nottingham or Birmingham quals if she fears running out of them and she should be in a better place than most to dictate.
It'll be interesting to see who gets them. Laura mentioned on the tennispodcast that she and Emma Rad are playing Glasgow so 2 of the 8 combined WCs are going there. There's not many too obvious MDWC candidates outside those mentioned in this passage (assuming Maia finds herself in the main draw directly, which I think she will). Ali Collins maybe, being Scottish and getting a couple towards the back end of last year. Freya and Emily App will likely be at the top end of conversations. Would be nice if Sasha was considered for a QWC.
I see 14 year old American Cori Gauff is on the alts list. She has no ITF ranking, thought their might have been possible a JE here, could that maybe replace the SE's?
Gauff hasn't got a JE for Glasgow, or she would have been in. (cf:- Molinari has one for Macon the following week, and is in the main draw).
She's also got one for the parallel 25k Altenkirchen event next week. I just wasn't sure how they worked and whether they could be added late if no SE's were used or something. Mind, I'm not really sure about how SE's work either. Was surprised to see Tan get in here with an SE for reaching a 25k final last week, you'd think the event you did well at would have to be at least the same level as the one you were going into the following week.
Shame about Eden. It was obviously her that was injured, not Alicia when pulling out of the doubles. Shame Glasgow couldn't have done a Shrewsbury regarding Lisicki and kept that quiet and then a Brit not in the Q list could sign in instead, not that I want to encourage underhand tactics of course...
There are two places for SE's and one for JE in all levels of ITF women's tournaments. The SE's are only available to finalists from the preceding week who are already direct entry into the qualifying draw. Not certain about the JE rules, but I assume Gauffi didn't apply for one, as I believe she can only have three in one year.
