Week 5 - (ITF 25k) - Jodhpur, India Hard

Alicia Barnett, Freya Christie and Emily Webley-Smith were 1st, 3rd and 4th on the qualifying list. As the top seed in the Q tournament was placed 6th on the list it seems likely that Alicia, Freya and Emily have all been pushed into the main draw with Jodie Burrage.

It remains to be seen who has actually turned up here. There were many non Indian players on the qualifying list that have not turned up, and it also remains to be seen how many of the Brits are actually here too.

Emily posted on Instagram from Jodhpur this morning. Lissey appears to still have been in London today, but that doesn't mean anything.

Emily, Freya and Jodie are all here and in the MD. Lissey is not here again.

Emily and Sofia playing together again in the doubles and seeded 4. Drawn against an Indian WC pair first up
Freya and Jodie playing together too but unfortunately against Hozumi and Inoue, the top seeds.
Doubles matches are tomorrow. No singles for Brits until Wednesday.

All our players play higher ranked opponents (not surprisingly), Jodie with the best chance, but the other two could have had worse draws too.

R32: Freya CHRISTIE (GBR) 490 vs Mai HONTAMA (JPN) [8] 370 (CH:364 Jan 19) 19yrs (JCH:15 Jan 17)
R32: Jodie BURRAGE (GBR) 415 vs Nastja KOLAR (SLO) 387 (CH:178 Nov 14)

Freya and Jodie would be due to face each other should they get past their respective first hurdles, so hopefully we get a QF there.

Freya and Jodie have just run Hozumi and Inoue close but sadly lost to the top seeds 2-6 6-3 10-12

Emily WS and Sofia Shapatava as 4th seeds have more success though and have won their first round match against the Indian WC pair 6-2 6-3

Next up they will play the winners of an all Indian contest, the only R16 doubles match to be held over until tomorrow.

Emily also has one, one pointer, so this should put her +8 up so far this week for points.

Better performance, Sofia was ill in Guadaloupe before their match which explains perhaps the unexpected loss there.

Good win.
I think Jodie has changed coaches recently and I hope she will kick on.
