Week 5 - Challenger (€46,600) - Open Bretagne Occidentale, Quimper, France (indoor hard)

For those forumites who mentioned in the last couple of days that they like to follow the odds, it's interesting to see that the Russian has tightened quite a bit today.
Started at 3.00 which seemed generous - Dan has had two really long matches and has blisters.
Now 2.6....
Ready to start....

It's that second serve again, just 20% won. Had three break points though, and couldn't take them. Dan off for his customary toilet break.

The Russian had some lovely backhand volleys when he comes in. But not a lot else. Pretty flat footed and a bit laborious. Dan had his chances. But seemed a bit obstinate in some of his plays. Another long night???????

I'm very pleased to have been wrong Dan not turning things around. It really didn't seem likely after he had lost serve half way thru the 2nd set.

Dan gets an even later slot tonight - he plays 2nd match not before 6.30 local.

The reason Dan got the last slot this time was so the French guys played earlier so everyone could go watch the rugby.

Which has just been monstrously disastrous for the French.. ..

Some more spectators might dribble back now.....

That's more like it:  Dan captures the second set by the same score to redress the balance & take the match into a decider.

Hoping for a quick 3rd set victory, rather than another tie-breaksmile

Not sure how well Dan is actually playing this week but he is certainly fighting hard, 3-4 now, another one down to wire. Takeaway of choice tonight was Chinese, feeling less stressed than last night. Staying in and cooking lamb tagine tomorrow with friends, so hopefully Dan will keep us company again.

Some tremendous 2nd serves from Dan to hold for 5-5*. He is running on fumes at the moment. No idea how he has made it this far.
