Poor James, that is one stacked field, very competitive.

25 aces between them so far, first set in the bag 7-5 for James, he saved 4 set points in the 2nd set tie break, had a match point but went down 7-6(9).

Into a deciding set.

Yay!  A win for Dino!  smile

L48:  James Ward WR 187 defeated Calvin Hemery (FRA) WR 213 by 7-5 6-7(9) 6-4

I was convinced he was going to blow it after that second set!

*****

L32:  James Ward WR 187 vs (2) Benoît Paire (FRA) WR 61 (CH = 18 in January 2016)

Well done but not much of a reward smile

Bravo, Wardy. I couldn't understand why Hemery was the clear favourite with the bookies this morning (stuck 50p on James :)).

And that's a horribly tight match.

But he must have done really well to stay focused in the third after losing that mammoth second set.

(Half-brit, wildcard Evan Furness, also won).

But a wonderful raucous crowd - and some showboating by Paire - and Wardy putting in a decent-ish performance - shame he didn't manage to break back when he had the chance half way through.

It's not a Paire match without some showboating (except for when he isn't putting in the effort). France sure has some players with flair smile

Pity Dino couldn't hang on to the break he had at *4-2 in that second set.

Really excellent second set tie-break but James ends up just on the wrong side, losing it 5-7.

But decent showing there.

Wardy also lost the 2nd set on a TB but from the little I saw, it was a decent standard of match.
