Do you know, CD , how the fines work- are they legally enforceable - the tennis ones, not the court ones.
Yes, I believe so.
Others will know better the actual route but arbitration awards/fines are enforceable against assets in all countries who are signed up to various of the UN and other conventions.
Six Spanish tennis players have been given lengthy bans after they were convicted of criminal charges relating to match-fixing.
The bans from tennis range from seven to 22 years.
Marc Fornell-Mestres, Jorge Marse-Vidri, Carlos Ortega, Jaime Ortega, Marcos Torralbo and Pedro Bernabe Franco were each fined 450 euros by the court. The ITIA also enforced its own financial punishments, with Fornell-Mestres fined 250,000 euros of which 200,000 euros was suspended, and Marse-Vidri fined 15,000 euros with 5,000 euros suspended. The remaining players received total fines of 450,000 euros of which 390,000 euros was suspended. They cannot play in or attend any event organised by an international or national association, or coach in the professional game.
Fornell-Mestres' highest world ranking was 236 in 2007 and he has won two ATP Challenger Tour titles, while Marse-Vidri reached 562 in 2008. The four other players were all unranked.
Time to ban the Spanish dopers at the top end of the game!

Well that is a whole other kettle of fish. Perhaps start with football and players from at least 4 of the teams in the champions league semis!

Time to ban all dopers at the top of the game. If there are any.
Dislike and envy do not a doping conviction make though.
I would never buy this paper normally but the Financial Times in its weekend magazine had an article on Nicolas Kicker and match fixing. One of the matches took place in Columbia so it's not just the meat that's a problem. As they commented few sports are as perfectly tuned for tennis as cheating.
Thanks, Jajon (& Jon). A fascinating article. I just wish the journo knew the difference between a translator & an interpreter. I started my working life as a translator (dealing with the written word), only on very rare occasions acting as an ad hoc interpreter (dealing with the spoken word) at meetings. It's a totally different discipline & one with which I never felt comfortable.
Off topic, would you mind explaining how the Archive "thingy" works, please?
