Germans in singles where kohlschreiber, otte, koepfer, masur, Struff and Zverev. Scores dont indicate that most of them are likely to have fixed, maybe Masurs stands out but he battled through qualies so why would he. Rest dont seem to give anything away.

Turns out it is the German opponent who is being investigated. In doubles it was the favoured pair who won the first set and then lost in 3 sets after lots of bets on them to lose like that before the match.

International Tennis Integrity Agency" has corresponding information on matches but answered to
@IbraNaber
that it does not want to comment on individual games or players for operational reasons. As WELT learned, the first suspicious match is a men's doubles in the first rd 2/x

Several providers sounded the alarm that the favored duo in the doubles match would be defeated during the match because of the conspicuously high live bets. The duo won the first set, which increased the odds on their own defeat - and then lost the remaining sets...

Second match was with a Flag of Germany but opponent is alleged. End of second set bets totaling a five figure sum on exact result in the third set were placed with larger providers according to those involved. There were special bets on maximum number of service games in entire match, too

Six Spanish tennis players have been given lengthy bans after they were convicted of criminal charges relating to match-fixing.

The bans from tennis range from seven to 22 years.

Marc Fornell-Mestres, Jorge Marse-Vidri, Carlos Ortega, Jaime Ortega, Marcos Torralbo and Pedro Bernabe Franco were each fined 450 euros by the court.
The ITIA also enforced its own financial punishments, with Fornell-Mestres fined 250,000 euros of which 200,000 euros was suspended, and Marse-Vidri fined 15,000 euros with 5,000 euros suspended.
The remaining players received total fines of 450,000 euros of which 390,000 euros was suspended.
They cannot play in or attend any event organised by an international or national association, or coach in the professional game.

Fornell-Mestres' highest world ranking was 236 in 2007 and he has won two ATP Challenger Tour titles, while Marse-Vidri reached 562 in 2008. The four other players were all unranked.

I've just seen this, it is extraordinary! I had no idea that such investigations were happening. Bans from 7-22 years and suspended sentences of 2 years. Ouch!

I'm not a fan of gambling, I wouldn't mind if it was just Bet365 et al who were being being screwd over.

I wonder how much similar bevaviour has not been discovered?

Wow, thats amazing .

Chris Goldsmitth the tennis talker Twitter account used to highlight lots of dodgy betting patterns and performances , really (and sometimes wrongly ) spotlighted many strange results. He suddenly stopped doing that 12 months ago, my suspicion is he was warned off. This report highlights organised crime and that is certainly what is behind all this .

Goldsmith had to be careful of defamation - he was skating very close. I'm not surprised if lawyers got in touch (not to mention anyone else....)

The players were also all given two-year suspended prison sentences, as well as a fine. Which is good.

The International Betting Integrity Association have been integral in this investigation - a lot of it was their manpower, resources etc.
As well as the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). All credit to them, and the Spanish authorities.

My main concern here is that it reports that they've only been banned from coaching in the professional sport - in my opinion that should be extended to all coaching (for a certain time period). Although, of course, I hope that no club would possibly hire them now.

Not sure about the suspended fines either - although it's obviously a balance between making it hurt and not putting people on the street. I just feel that, given how long it's been going on for, those guys MUST have made a considerably larger amount than that which they've been fined.

Out of interest in terms of the fines. The courts applied a paltry 450 euros. The tennis fines are much more. But are they enforceable legally. Eg the first guy has a fine of 250k with 200k suspended. Does he legally have to pay 50k now? If he doesnt pay it, can they sue him or is it even criminal not to pay it? Or if he doesnt pay , does he just remain banned for ever?

Re goldsmith i suspect it was quite possibly lawyers and other interested parties !
