Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open - men's singles main draw (hard)

Could not be happier for Bambo and OMara great decision to focus on doubles, they have earnt this fantastic opportunity. My target for them would be to see them in all four slams.

TBF, Nick's article was about singles and doubles, so should really be posted in both threads.

Opelka will upend Isner eventually. Big serve but moves better in my opinion.

Yes, saw him play the qualis at Queens last year, against Shapovalov (and for free, they're a bargain, those quali entries) - as you say, very gangly but moves well, looks a decent athlete, and doesn't half cream the ball smile

Only 4 seeds down in round one, Kyle, Isner, Johnson and cecchinato. And only the Italian from top half.

Could end up stacked in later rounds .

You seem to have blocked me commenting through my normal account (skybluesam), one of the oldest accounts on here.

Either way, I'm here to pledge my support to Dan. Throw the ridiculous unjust so called doping ban in the bin and beat Federer tonight, a career making victory. I'm up for it, who else is?

Dan got Fed to a tiebreak. Close!

Dan played really well, key moment was when he was 5-4 up in tie break, just needed to hold serve and he was a set up. Deserved a set against Roger who was pretty much flawless today and he had to be.

Still confident Dan can push on and this next year perhaps be GB number 1. No doubting on form he is our best player. As well as being the most entertaining to watch.

2 tie breaks and close ones, seems Dan played well. Singles over for gb men though.

I dont think we were expecting anyone last the 2nd round when the draw was made. Sadly I think this may be a sign of the future without Andy. Its hard to see where a top 16 player is coming from in the next 5 years or so.

I'd hoped Kyle would make round 3 but sadly wrong. Berdych crushed Haase today as an aside.

Kevin anderson lost to tiafoe, first big seed gone

Reading reports, sounds like Dan v fed was a treat and fed have Dan plaudits. Like facing a mirror he said.

Dan should be back in top 100 v soon, certainly hope he gets into Wimbledon and us open directly. French maybe as well.

It was Jon, I watched the match from start to finish. Barely a fault from either player, some great serving and shot making. Sublime backhand slice work from both. Fed just too good, Dan certainly playing top 50 tennis there.
