Dan played really well, key moment was when he was 5-4 up in tie break, just needed to hold serve and he was a set up. Deserved a set against Roger who was pretty much flawless today and he had to be.

Still confident Dan can push on and this next year perhaps be GB number 1. No doubting on form he is our best player. As well as being the most entertaining to watch.

As I indicated, I agree the most entertaining. On their top form I would certainly question him being better than Kyle.

It depends what one means by "better", I suppose.

Granted when everything is working, Kyle is more likely to beat Dan than vice versa, but that can be akin to Isner beating Federer (or Rusedski beating Henman): power overwhelming art. Kyle has the more powerful weapon(s), but when they (it?) malfunction he has no fallback plan. Dan is an artist, and has more fallback plans - and the skill to execute them.

Overall I anticipate Kyle will have a higher career high than Dan, though, if that is the measure.

On their "top form" means just that so most powerful weapon(s) not malfunctioning. Personally I mean that more than consistency or ranking.

If everything is going about as well as it can for each of them in one match ( not particularly against each other since you can have bad match ups ) I was certainly questioning that that is Evo, and for me it may well be Kyle. But I think it is a debate since both at their best, in their very different ways, are good enough to give the best a real game.

I think a baby was crying and Dan asked Federer if he didn't mind playing with the baby crying and he said he didn't mind on that point (and not on the previous point where he was facing a break point) I think

Oh thanks for the explanatio. It was amusing to see such a relaxed attitude - like playing in the park almost.

I would expect him to break the 'Top 100' by Wimbledon.

Would save the Wimbledon committee having to vote on whether he should be rewarded with a Wild-card.smile

Top 100 is around 580 points right now - Dan had 266 before the AO, and has 70 to go on, with nothing to drop until the beginning of May. I'd be very surprised (injuries aside) if he doesn't pick up the extra 250 points in the next few months.

Thanks that's good to hear. Leon Smith today said more than anything Dan had such an impressive attitude on the recent squad training camp, very focused, helping others,  driving the team on, v good to hear.

I think thats his natural inclination anyway when with a squad of players, very much a team beast. I think its the more solitary aspects of the tour he struggles with. Hopefully those days are done.

Depends on the 'team' too - Dan seems very much a social creature but his choice of 'team'/friends hasn't always been wise.

I have a lot of faith in young people coming through their daft years and getting their act together.

May be a bit early to broach this but can anyone see Henman Hill, Murray Mount being named after mini fed and becoming Evos elevation I mean he is the epitome of SW17.

And Thiem (7) is out, beaten by 5-7 4-6 0-2 retired by the local WC, Alexei Popyrin, who despatched Mischa Zverev in straight sets in the first round!

Last 32 known and we have the following players country breakdown:

4 - Spain

3 - Italy and Australia

2 - Serbia, Canada, Russia, France, Croatia, USA

1 - Belgium, Portugal, Japan, Germany, Greece, Georgia, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Czech Rep, Argentina

0 - GB (and a host of others obviously)

Most interesting for me is Italy and Australia being well represented, France and USA not so many as they would probably hope for.

PS 4 of the last 32 are called Alex - Zverev, de Minaur, Bolt and Popyrin

As someone with a son called Alex, good choice of name to the parents of those 4!

I always use the last 16 to see the country and age trends.
This seems to be the first GS for a long time where the youngsters have made more of a mark.

The average age is 27 spot on.

More importantly, looking at the age tranches:

Age 20-24 : 6

Age 25-29 : 4

Age 30-34 : 5

Age 35+: 1

That's a big chunk of youngsters (age 20-24) in the top 16, and two of them are only 20, one 21, and two 22. So they're all on the young side of the group.
