British Tour 2019

It was the foreigners who wrapped up, in both men and womens:

Stirling FINAL:

Nico Rosenzweig def. Scott Duncan 6-2 6-4

The main draw of the latest British Tour event starts in Billesley, Birmingham today. Despite it only being a Tier 2 event it has a very strong line up including local great Lloyd Glasspool, other ranked players such as George Loffhagen, Ryan Storrie and future legend Jack Draper, I was wondering where he was?

There are excellent viewing facilities here (very cold though), worth popping along if you are in the area.

Lloyd has withdrawn to be replaced by LL Cameron Price.

Jack Draper took no prisoners, winning 0 & 0

Wins too for Josh Rose, and George Davies, and Alex Groves.

In our big young gun names, George Loff also won for the loss of one game.

And a huge smile to see Ryan Storrie back playing, and getting a win, a decent one too over Nick Nugent who's a decent player.

Jack Draper had a far harder time of it today, needing 7-5 7-5 to beat Alex Groves (who he?)

George Loff also needed 6-4 6-4 to get past Josh Rose.

George Davies won more easily.

Ryan S and Ben Jones still at it.....

You're welcome

Ryan S def. Ben Jones in three sets. So it's him against Jack for the other semi.

That's one of the things I love about tennis, its all "on the day". Great opportunity for Alex to play a much higher ranked player in Jack - something we may see less of under the new ITF system no.

Alex was one of the Essex cohort of LTA's 'Future Stars' - remember those? He's in full time education, very level headed and wouldn't care two hoots about all the hype surrounding Jack. Alex is another Brit off to college in the US next year smile

Thanks for that, EP.

It's great to know some background.

There aren't many names that I've never, ever seen but his was one - sorry, Alex

Wish him all the best state-side.

And, yes, it's great for players to have the opportunity to chance their arm against someone far higher up in the pecking order.

From what some parents have told me, this is almost deliberately hindered at times by the LTA (for fear the 'big name' will lose). Only hearsay, of course, but what a load of codswallop, if true.

Also, great to see that a Tier 2 British Tour event can attract such big names (relatively speaking). Do hope they've got a few spectators.......

And so it's a young-gun final:

In the semis:

George Loffhagen def. George Davies 6-2 6-1

Jack Draper def. Ryan Storrie 7-6(4) 6-2

It's only a Tier 2 but there are some interesting players taking part this week at Corby.

Harry Meehan has come through qualis but drawn the top seed, Mike Shaw, in the MD. Don't know if that's more unfortunate for Harry or for Mike !

Julius Tverijonas, age 24, from Lithuania, ex-ATP 1103, and ex-top 100 junior, is taking part.

Rob Carter and Sizya are there. As is Lamar Bartley.

In terms of juniors, our top 2002-er, Felix Gill, is in the draw. As is Charlie Miller, both of them just back from Turkey. Plus Finn Murgett.
