Week 50 - ITF ($100K+H) - Dubai, UAE Hard

Q1 APPLETON, Emily (GBR) 529 vs KREJCIKOVA Barbora (CZE) (1) 206 CH = 121 (Aug 2017)

Very tough match again for Emily, against the top seed - not expecting much there.

I reckon Eden may have a WC here- she was in the Q list but not included here and she had that random QWC for WTA Dubai earlier this year.

Eden is in the Q draw, same section as Emily

Q1: SILVA, Eden (GBR) 498 v SIZIKOVA, Yana (RUS) 371 CH = 336 (Jun 2016)

Ah, managed to miss that. Middle of the road opponent in terms of ranking, but still ranked significantly higher than Eden.

Why is there such a high category tournament at a quiet time of year? Seems a bit odd to have a $100k + H tournament long after the majority of players have ended their seasons.

Edited the typo...

$1000k would give some decent prizemoney !

Nine top 100 players on the acceptance list, headed by Kiki (who has been training hard for a couple of weeks)

Pretty sure everyone knew what I meant, even with the extra but now removed 0.

Kiki who has barely won a singles match in 2018? Great headliner.

Not a good season, I'll admit. But she can't be that bad, she did beat Harriet in Linz wink

This week is chosen because the players wanted it in this week so they could include it in their pre-season preparations before heading to Australia.

Thanks - guess it still seems odd to me given the entry list as to which players benefit really. Sure, there are some 100 players but none, not even Kiki, you would exactly call headliners. *shrug* Just my opinion.

Hopefully they'll meet in the FQR - not holding my breath on that.

She was also 0-2 in the first set so won 6 of the next 7 games.

Emily lost 1 and 2.
