Boys: Eddie Herr International Junior Championship, USA, clay - Grade 1 (Week 48)

There has been an absence of Brits in the Mexican events during the season ending North American swing, but we have 4 boys accepted for the main draw of the prestigious Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl to follow:  Anton Matusevich, Jacob Fearnley, Harry Wendelken and James Story.  Qualifying has started with Zvenko Bencedic and Mathis Ross losing early, but George Davis has ousted the sixth qualifying seed Blaise Bicknell (ranked 148), unusually by default (6-4 2-0)

It's interesting to see Anton continue to play juniors, I presume it's insurance ie to insure he will get into the MD's of the junior slams, Kack and George should qualify with their ATP rankings should they want to enter?

Anton should get into the Australian and French Opens with the points he has accumulated in the last 6 months - more points will help towards entry into the later slams, seeding and the 2019 Junior Masters.  George should be fine for the same 2 events on his ATP ranking (he needs to remain inside 750 for main draw acceptance), though I doubt he will be interested. Jack will make all 4 slams on his ATP ranking if he wants to

Sign of affection smile

Or maybe he's very tall indeed - rather like Little John ....

Very impressive from Harry (little or not), resilient after losing an extended tiebreak to a strong opponent. Harry and James resume their Wimbledon partnership against second seeds Anton and Adrian Alexeev (US Open champions) today, but round 2 singles take place on Wednesday

R2

Mathys Erhard (FRA) v Jacob Fearnley
Harry Wendelken v (WC) Jacob Bullard (USA)
(6) Anton Matusevich v Taha Baadi (CAN)

Also, Jacob F and partner won their match, 6-1 6-4

Anton's slam winning partner is Adrian Andreev not Alexeev as I misremembered. There are also under12/14/16 competitions. There were a handful of British boys in the under12/under14 events, but all lost in the first two rounds of singles.

A tough one for Anton in the quarters against the Colombian who pushed Jack to an epic third set in the Wimbledon semis. Nicolas Mejia has dropped just 6 games in his first three matches

QF

(6) Anton Matusevich v (2) Nicolas Mejia (COL)

Are there still wildcards for end of season junior rankings, given the new format?

Thoght there were but but the top players get entry into 15ks. confuse

Edit - read the Q properly and can't remember anything about this - given alloted places the WCs disappear.
