Ranah continuing where she left off from last week's Tennis Europe U14 win. Also good to see Eva get her first ITF singles win.

Yes, good to see the success of the U14 girls.

Unfortunately, they both had to play two matches in SUnday in qualifying and last week's U14 finalist, Given, had a really long first match, beating the Q6 seed. And she then lost her FQR in three sets to the top Q seed. Ranah got through her two a lot more comfortably so must have still be quite fresh today.

As you say, great victory from young Eva. Also from Andrea.

As well as Megan, above, Andrea Pineda chalks up another good win. Young fave Hannah keeps going strong too. Stoiber - only 13, born 2005 - finally loses out in tight three setter.

And little Eva (only born in May 2005) continues to blow up a storm

Andrea, born 2004, is our other hope still left in - great that two such youngsters are doing so well (and Tiana, born 2003, and Hannah, born 2004, making the QFs too)

QF:

Maria Sara POPA (ROU) 6-3 6-3 Tiana FOX (GBR)
Eva SHAW (GBR) 6-0 6-3 Hannah SMITH (GBR) [8]
Celia Belle MOHR (FRA) [4] 6-1 6-3 Elisa VAN MEETEREN (GBR) [5]
Andrea PINEDA (GBR) 6-3 6-0 Megan DAVIES (GBR)

CD I would use the adjective young as opposed to little. Many of the younger girls are well equipped to compete at U18 level although they have to battle inexperience. An excellent win for Eva who continues to add to her success in this summers road to Wimbledon where she beat Sofia in the SF also. Eva is coached by Hollie Bambridge in Nottingham, I understand has a younger brother who also plays a bit.

It is interesting to see the links and patterns of migration into higher education that evolve although I think she may turn out to be a bit too good for the scenic Nottingham Alberquerque (where Ay up me duck is the on court morning greeting) route into senior tennis but worth opting for GCSE Spanish just in case?

Little Eva was a play on words, a reference to Little Eva, aka Eva Boyd, the amazing singer.

Although I have no problem with 'little' and 'tiddler' - it doesn't imply they're not ready to play this level, any more than 'young' does.

Add: to reply to Oakie's message below here, because otherwise it'll derail the thread rather, to me 'little' is a word very similar to 'young. If I talk about my friend's 'little girl', I'm not concerned whether she's big for her age or not, it's just a way of saying she's a 6 or 7 or whatever. So I'll call Eva 'little' just to point out that she's a lot younger than most, as well as a tribute to Little Eva, - next time I'm at one of the U14 or U12 events I'll ask the kids if they mind or have a strong opinion.

But it implies they are small particularly when their age is in brackets which is often not the case. Eva will hopefully grow taller but is already a good height and build for an U18 tennis. Obviously conditioning will be part of her development but being relatively to G4/G5 level it is progress despite relative lack of experience that is exciting. I think Andrea is in a similar position.

Little Eva was Carole King's baby sitter, she had one hit (written by Carole) which is famous but made her almost nothing, she was regularly beaten by her boyfriend (inspired the song also written by Carole; he hit me and it felt like a kiss, not good really) she retired penniless with three young children and unfortunately passed away at the age of 59. She could sing but her life was amazing for other less pleasant reasons.

Well, I guess Eva might be running on fumes by now, what with singles and doubles.

So may not be a bad idea to take a raincheck on the doubles final.

Shame for Andrea but sure she understands.

Hope Eva is OK for her singles final though and it's just caution.
