And concedes the break again. The tall blonde Russian from Florida (sounds familiar ?) served it out for 7-5
There are indeed similarities and both have had success at Wimbledon as teenagers.
Zhuk's pro career thus far hasn't been as impressive as some of her fellow junior slam champs / other emerging talent and she hasn't really had a proper breakthrough like Yastremska, Potapova, Anisimova etc. but a win here would put her at a career high.
Ah well, lost 5-7 4-6, had her chances and there was a number of breaks, but at least those 3 wins on this American trip has guaranteed her place in the Aussie Open main draw, even if none of those wins were against players in the top 180.
Definitely worth her while delaying her hols to get some extra ranking points. Hope she has a productive winter working on some of the technical weaknesses (e.g. forehand). She showed by her improved serve that it's not too late but the youngsters are coming.
Having got herself back to my predicted GB #2 it was very decent of Heather to ensure that she didn't get too far ahead of my WR 96 prediction but really I wouldn't have minded.
I am not a fan of racket smashing but having watched Hev for some time now, she is so calm and moderated in terms of the way in which she interviews and generally decent in the way she carries herself you dont really get a feel for that intense passion to do her best that seethes within until it boils over in a crescendo of splintering carbon fibre. Hev is the perfect ambassador for Dunlop, tough and hard wearing; the off road racket that makes expensive mincemeat of grass, tests clay surface and only really challenged by concrete.
I hope she gets in a really decent training block and starts 2019 releasing the devil within her, an absolute necessity if she is to become the tennis queen of Tasmania.
