SF: (5) Aidan McHugh WR 585 beat (6) Julian Ocleppo (ITA) WR 789 (CH = 590 in July last year) 7-5 6-1
Very good. If Aidan can win the final it looks as if he will probably just slip into the top 500 on Monday week ( he was 714 on the acceptance list here before winning the Kuwait F1 title ). Either way it's a further CH and GB #12 on Monday week. And then soon the points unravel and we will have the all new points situation and new uncertainties re the ITF landscape for so many ...
Hopefully Aidan can get into challengers qualifying initially and then in time MDs and continue to really progress.

The French kid has Russian parents/background, was at IMG in Florida for a year (two sessions of physio a day, he says, sounds great, just what I need....) and beat Ed Corrie when Ed was about 350 in the world.
There was a bit of a kerfuffle last year regarding whether he was going to get proper FFT funding and set up his own team or just be part of the CNE group (the equivalent of the NTC). I'm not 100% sure but I think he's now part of the CNE so that would imply his project application got turned down.
Aidan probably needs to dominate at 25K level before stepping up to challengers. I dont think there is any question that the early spring Spanish 25k swing would test him followed by grass court wild cards and then by the US summer 25K swing. Perhaps he could then generate a rank that will get him into the Eastern European challengers in September or the west coast US Autumn challenger swing. Target for 2019 year end Aussie Open Qualifying??

Challenger Qualies are all but be scrapped arent they? 4 player draws but 48 player main draws?
Ah, didn't know about that.
Be interesting to watch player progression from next year, particularly with the young up and comers. I believe the ITF said all the changes could or indeed perhaps would help this whilst others don't see it. Maybe even moreso it will be important to have ongoing good support, either from national associations or from other means.

Thrilled for Aidan, he's really had a pick-up in this second half of the year (which is not really a 'pick-up' as in it's not surprising given his age, and talent, rather all part of the progression, but good to see it coming consistently and must make him feel good for the off season)
And well done, Jonathan Binding too - part of the LTA player/coach programme that (as far as one can tell, no real idea about the coaching) really seems to work.
Hopefully that's a top 500 ranking for Aidan achieved before as things stand initially having no ATP ranking at all in the new year. Though bounding up the ITF rankings.
Looks as if he will be the 7th ranked under 19 / junior eligible player in the ATP rankings on Monday week with Jack at #4.
