Fran won 6-2 6-1, much better news and that's a seed she has put out as well. Go Fran!

I hadn't realised Fran was playing today so seeing that result has really cheered me up after all the disappointment at Shrewsbury. Seems like Maia and Fran are cementing their positions as GB 9 and 10 for the end of season predictions.

What an improvement from the summer!  It can't all be down to the change of surface.

Yes, Fran actually drops a 15k win this week, so before this result Jodie was at least temporarily going to take over as GB #10, but now Fran has made sure she will stay ahead of her. Fran is still -4 pts for the week (and -12 in the live rankings) , so one more win will put her in positive territory.

An indication of how she's improved is that she's one of three players this week in events that count this week (Naomi and Heather are the others).

It is more an indication of good tournament selection. This is a very weak event - weaker than the 25Ks in Minsk and Shrewsbury.

Women's 25Ks count towards WTA rankings next year. So Maia's points from Shrewsbury will count.

Maia's points from Shrewsbury will count after next week. Also, I forgot about Katie S in China.

Didn't Fran's next opponent have a few ding dong matches with Mandy Carreras a while back when Mandy reached a 25k final or two?

Mandy hasn't played her - you must be thinking of someone else
